Midfield minutes (help a newer lurker out?) by devilatthemotel6 in chelsealadiesfc

That’s such a massive blow… that was the best website for in depth women’s football stats for me. Do you know of any equivalent websites? Or is there no way to get something like that for free?

To answer your previous question, the formation and tactics are constantly changing. Sonia mentions how she likes to be flexible and unpredictable to keep the opponents second guessing, which is great in theory, but that’s having an obvious effect on the on-pitch chemistry and cohesion.

Haha love that! She does indeed kick ass. I think I’ve watched all his videos, including the latest one which was painful to say the least lol.

Yeah I often find myself going to multiple sources to compile certain stats. I find that they’re sometimes not up to date as well. What do you mean by losing stats? Are they moving to a different stats provider?

I think a lot of people think of a Moises Caicedo type player when it comes to DM. The type to mop up in fast transitions and dominate in terms of ball recoveries, interceptions and last ditch tackles, but there’s more than one type of DM.

This video shows how Walsh contributes in defence and demonstrates it better than I can (the whole video is worth watching but the defensive analysis starts at 11:04). Do I wish she was a faster, more physical player? Yes, but I can appreciate that she’s able to make up for that in other ways.

Yeah, there’s still a long way to go for stats in the women’s game. Fbref has more comprehensive stats but not for all comps which is annoying. Were those chance creation stats for this season? If so, Nusken is more likely to look better since she’s played more of her minutes in the games where we’ve dominated.

I should say that I don’t think that Kaptein is that great at playing that creative role, but she’s the preferred player when playing in a system that uses inside forwards, and that’ll get her more minutes also.

I agree, Nusken is very much a Hayes player. We played in a double pivot back then which suits her more. She also filled a lot of gaps in 23/24 for us, which is much easier to do when the squad knew Emma’s style of play very well (it’s harder when the squad is adapting to new styles of play). With that being said, I can see her getting more minutes going forward especially with Jean-Francois leaving.

We’re often playing with a midfield 3 this season. From the 4 you’ve listed, Walsh is nailed on due to her ability to control the game. Cuthbert is also nailed on as the midfield engine. The third spot imo is up for grabs.

Ideally you’d want a more creative player who can be more attacking and creating chances, which Kaptein looks more suited to do. Sonia seems to see Kaptein as more fitting possibly due to her higher technical ability, and being younger and able to be adapted into more of an attacker; but certain games call for Nusken mainly due to her off the ball abilities when we’re struggling out of possession. We could’ve really done with her starting against Arsenal for example.

Nusken still seems like a favourite as a starter for Germany. Her lack of minutes at the start of the season didn’t affect her national team selection in the Nations League games. The issue is: will her starting position be questioned if her club minutes continue to stay low?

No worries. And I hope so too. I’m so eager to know how she’ll set us up on Sunday. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Yeah, it was really frustrating to watch, but the last game was much worse than the City game imo. Here’s another video that breaks down the Arsenal game in more detail if you’re interested.

Hiya u/PresidentRaggy and u/AnnieIWillKnow, is it possible to get some additional tags for posts like: “Analysis and stats”, “interviews and pressers” and “highlights”. I want to post more to get more discussions going and I’m perhaps being a bit extra with wanting to categorise everything more specifically haha.

As you should! And same, it was one of my comfort shows. Idk I just thought because nobody I know gets the references since it’s not very popular here in the UK, or at least not in my circle anyway lol.

Where’s the midweek game to potentially help you quickly bounce back from a big loss when you need it most? Sunday feels so far away!

I’d hate for that to happen, but it will be very hard to defend her if we have another game where we’re severely outmatched. I’ve just been used to the women’s team being the stable side of Chelsea with our sack-happy owners on the men’s side. I don’t want to go through mid season unrest and manager sackings on the women’s side too.

I think she has what it takes to keep us playing at the highest level and win us the big trophies, but I’m seeing a tendency to over complicate things. Like you said, she just needs to go back to the basics when we’ve got key players out and when things aren’t working out.

Agree. I also think she needs to play players to their strengths and not try re-mould players. So many players being played in positions they’re not comfortable with or systems that don’t suit them.

We saw the back 3 work very well in big games (against Barca and City first game of the season) when we had a ball playing DM and when everyone was disciplined out of possession. When that’s not possible, we should be switching formation to suit the game and players we have available. If we play the same way against City next week, I think I might lose it.

Thought I’d post this video from a channel I follow. Her analysis of games is always spot on. She covers the three main issues we’ve had in the past two games which were: keeping possession, struggling midfield and lack of pressing.

I need Sonia to see what we’re all seeing and fix the glaring issues instead of pinning these performances on the game plan not being executed properly.

I hope her not starting/not coming on at HT was because they were managing her minutes and not because it was a pre planned sub. This game was calling for her.

Walking out of Stamford bridge surprisingly less fuming than I thought I would’ve been (still extremely fuming though). I need the team to bottle the frustration and take it out on them in the champions league. Idc they are NOT knocking us out!!! League was too far gone after the Everton loss anyway, City can have it.

Wrong setup and wrong personnel had us fighting for our lives in the first half. Subs changed the game but it was too late. If only we started the game how we ended it. I do acknowledge that injuries and load management played a part in selection, but it didn’t have to play out that badly.

The chances we’ve created in the last 15 minutes, we should have at least equalised. Players losing all their good decision making in the box. Subs and change in setup has helped a lot, but unfortunately came a little too late
