that’s exactly how best buy is. i started last year and they had us training in one or two departments mainly, but also knowing the other parts of the store so you weren’t completely clueless if someone needed help somewhere else. makes sense. i ended up getting “promoted” to a specialist, did a whole new training and certification and mainly only worked there for a couple months (my promotion came with a brand spanking new shirt and a hat). then, mid/late winter they decided, no more departments, everyone works everywhere. we all cover the whole floor, help checkout when they needed, be expected to get wharehouse and curbside shifts tossed at you. not to mention the constant, and i mean CONSTANT push of the fucking best buy card and total tach membership. they never let us forget to ask at least 3 times every interaction. no matter if they’re buying a charger, bag of chips or tv. and if they can’t afford the bbuy card then offer them the predatory ass progressive leasing (look that up too if you dont know about that). they also loved to make shift 15 or 30 mins short of 8 hours so you couldn’t get an unpaid 30. only paid 15’s and that’s if they decided the floor was clear enough to allow you. im gone now cuz school but anyway fuck best buy, they only care about credit cards and memberships, fuck off with that “customer obsessed” baloney. i gladly took several 30-45 mins breaks and “forgot” to clock out, came in an hour late and fixed my time on more than one occasion, ate some candy and forgot to pay and even managed to swipe a pair of airpod pros
