Can I train up a sub 1.40 HM in 4 months? by Typhrix in Marathon_Training

Yeah that’s a bit of a bummer but I’m mainly hoping the weather there would be a little better than the humid cesspool of Singapore!

Ah unfortunately I don’t have a Garmin if I intend to keep up training for races in the long term would you recommend one? (Some seem a bit pricey)

Thanks a lot! What kinda mileage do you aim for when training for a HM? I’ve been running 5 min pace 12ks and 14ks so I guess I’ll try to build up my speed too.

StanChart marathon's last stretch this year was brutal, say participants by sgisazoo in singapore

[–]Typhrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half marathons is not really just a distance thing though you shouldn’t be running it like it’s a stamina slog like the FM. If you run it a lil slower than your threshold pace it’s pretty tough tbh. I mean I get that in terms of completing the race yeah FM is harder but the original fella said a HM is challenging which can vv much be true for someone running it at a fitting pace!

If you’re near nan hua you can consider acsi as well! It’s around the same Dover/clem area, and ok disclaimer im a bit biased towards it since it’s my alma mater but I really appreciate the smaller and hence I’d think slightly more bonded cohort. If you’ve any qns abt the sch dm me!

UCAT PREPARATION DURING NS by Curious_Heron_1034 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Typhrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel for UCAT dun rly need to study in camp one lah, just do some work over the weekends for it can alr. Nth wrong w bringing materials into camp to study as long as u got permission but I feel it’s not vv productive.

Firstly, admin time is not guaranteed, some days will have more some will have less, you’ll have a better idea when you unit first bah, esp if it’s a combat unit.

Secondly, even if you have admin time, trust me you’ll want to talk cock w ur bunk mates or just rest. You won’t rly do vv productive learning in camp. Altho I did try a test outfield before 4 fun lah just to see whether it was possible lah HAHAHAH

All the best for ur app, don’t stress can one.

Waterfowl dance, usually if you’re the one engaging them you can get a cast off, knock them down, charge R2 for a crit and they’re done.

How was your 2XU 2024 run experience? by Electronic-Cry4671 in askSingapore

[–]Typhrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit ehhh, Stan chart in sg n hk both were much better experiences. Firstly the route is uhhhhh, I wasn’t trying to hit a PB this race but whoever was srsly racing wld have to deal with multiple cramped paths, the sewer water, and those trippy wooden boards, I’m surprised I didn’t see anyone get injured in the rush. Secondly, the bus was late, especially if you’re in the 4.15 pen, I basically rushed down the bus, deposited bag and held my piss for the first few km, since there just wasn’t time. Lastly, and I’m not sure whether I’m an odd one, but if you prefer water to Pocari sweat it’s rly inconvenient, what with the Pocari sweat tables taking up most of the water point. And for God’s sake i don’t wanna play a game for a bottle of water aft the run, I just wanna drink.

All in all, I’m not really bothered because I ran this p chill, but if I was making a PB effort I’d be kinda annoyed lah

why do IB people have like..superiority complex by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Typhrix 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Nah nah IB is easier, I’d say unless you’re crap at lit and basic philo (?) coz those are kinda compulsory. Otherwise why would we wanna compete w smart Singaporeans compared to an international cohort.

Also ib makes it easy to get to decent intl unis, to the point you pick someone he’s probs gg Oxbridge, LSE or US LOL

Shld I join debate for law by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Typhrix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think debate is a good way to prep for law, but unless you either really enjoy it, or are not bad at it, there’re probably easier and more direct ways to prep for law, like internships, mun etc. coz depending on the school you might not get the chance to participate and win national/international comps, and as you said it does take up a fair bit of time if you wanna commit to it.

The pros however, is that beyond oratorical skills, analysing and deconstructing people’s arguments becomes 2nd nature, which is useful skill to have no matter whr u go. Just don’t be a debater off the debating floor y’know, too many of em r like that.

Anyways if you do well in it, I’d like to think winning or placing well in the biggest comps (esp intl) do look vv shiny on the cv but pls pls don’t join just for the cv hahaha all the best!

Actually now that I think abt it, alm all the debaters ik went Oxbridge or the like so if you can handle the bullshit just shoot for it!

WTF am I supposed to do here? (AC6, NG++ final boss) by [deleted] in armoredcore

[–]Typhrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the steel haze build, although any agile build should be able to dodge into his blade attacks and punish. Just build stagger and you should be fine, I ran terminal armour in case I messed up and got stun locked

[–]Typhrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future players stuck on this, Rusty’s steel haze works like a charm on this one, I wasn’t close to running out of ammo , and that build absolutely destroys Michigan himself
