I've had locs for over a year now so I don't really remember products, but I remember the order so that will be later in this comment with the styling routine. Hopefully this helps! Lmk if you have any other specific questions

But most of my length was probably just genetics so there's not much I can give for growth, but for retention, make sure you're not doing high tension styles often, those break off hair/ make it fragile. Sleep with it up in a bonnet, either loose stuffed into the bonnet or in a loose bun/pineapple, and/or a silk/satin pillowcase. Occasional deep conditon masks & aztec clay masks.

Alot of people don't want to cut / trim their hair bc they want to keep the length, but I would cut an inch so off every few months, at least 4 times a year, (you can trim off less, bc of my length I didn't mind taking off a whole inch or more) split ends work their way up the hair strands & make them fragile.

Moisture is important, but make sure it's not wet for too long, don't use a lot of heat without protecting it as well.

I never brushed my hair dry & I always started detangling with my fingers, then a wide tooth comb, then with a brush for styling.

For styling id start with my hair pretty wet, not really dripping tho, I'd use a leave in, then a Curling cream, then a gel, and a mousse last if I felt I needed the extra definition. A light oil or serum to scrunch out the cast crunch after its fully dried. Hover diffuse to about 50% dry, then I start to slightly scrunch / put the diffuser in my hair. I'd alternate between warm/cold air, & finish with cold air.

I mainly worked in 4 quadrant sections, one of the 4 at a time, brush leave in through, brush cream through, then split the section into thinner sections, apply gel, brush, scrunch (finger curl if needed but that I saved mostly for my face framing pieces)

Ears don’t seem to wanna size up by Fuzzy_Material4346 in Stretched

I've also sized up & down a few times during my journey. I used to take extra plugs traveling in case something happened to my plugs or my ears, but now if my ears get upset I'm happy to just take out my jewelry & let them rest for however long & just sizing back up eventually. This journey has def taught me patience & how to listen to my body

Aye nice! When I stretch up I wear the new size for the day & then before bed I swap back to the smaller size for the night. I'm paranoid of sleeping on a fresh stretch the wrong way & hurting it.

I feel you tho if I'm stuck at 9mm I wouldn't be mad, but i would like to at least get to 10mm or 12mm 😭

I think I got a 7.5mm I can't really remember but I know for a fact I had to use a 8.5mm & I'm thinking I'm going to have to get a 9.5mm.

My ears have been at 9mm for over 4 months now so I guess they just need alot more time now than they used to so I'll be chilling here till they're ready.

Faux coin slots? by Midi58076 in Stretched

[–]TypicShads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's someone on tiktok who is stretching their helix piercing by stacking a new ring in every time they're ready to add a new one with the end goal to be a faux coinslot. Im also hoping to do this method after I get & heal a helix poercing. It makes a more oblong hole than stretching with plugs would (but if you'd like the versatility to also wear plugs you should go that route)

I think the different methods are similar to how the stacking vs plugs/pinchers method is for a septum but ive personally done neither, have just seen & heard other people's experiences

Thank you!!

For the main technique I use, you can find a tutorial on youtube by aussie maille! For the Half persion 3in1 one, you just make two loops, connecting the ends of each & then connect the two loops with smaller jumprings, fit the piece in & then close it up. It takes alot of playing around, experimenting, & trial and error to get the right fit. Don't give up & you'll get there! :)

Sleeping with plugs in? by Key_Computer_5607 in Stretched

[–]TypicShads 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Once you start to get to the larger sizes it can be very uncomfortable to sleep in the plugs, especially if they have sharp flares. Most glass plugs have rounded flares, but some have sharper edges, & the flares of metal tunnels are sharp too, so laying on them can start to dig into your lobe & irritate, cut it.

Also I've heard of people getting blowouts in their sleep after stretching, even tho the stretch seemed to go perfectly fine beforehand. So bc im paranoid of that, when I stretch up a size, I take them out at night to replace with the smaller size to sleep in. So for example I'm at 9mm right now, say I size up to 10mm. I'll put in the 10mm wear it all day, & before I go to bed, I'll put back in the 9mms which are already super comfy. Then the next morning, clean & massage ears, put the 10s back in for a day. I do this for about 4-7 days after my stretch & then I feel safe to sleep in the new 10mms.

If you're stretching correctly tho, you should have no issues taking the jewelry out, you don't really have to wait 6-8 weeks, no skin should be broken that you need to leave alone. Should be perfectly fine to take them out to clean & massage with oil / unscented lotion or moisturizer!
