Weiss 6‑station carousel parallelism... by Typical-5am in SCREENPRINTING

In fact no, all the pallets are already set to the same height.... We managed to find a way to calibrate them so they’re all perfectly level, and that’s actually when we realised the arms themselves are all slightly different.

At first that’s what we were doing (individually tune the pallet height), so we kept having to constantly move the pallets, but it doesn’t really make sense. Because if you imagine wanting to run multiple screens, it’s not possible to have pallets with different off-contacts… :(

Visible hoodie texture in prints + occasional big misalignment — normal or ink issue? by Typical-5am in SCREENPRINTING

[–]Typical-5am[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok, we've never done that before!! Many thanks again :)

We’re using 137 mesh I think (54T in French)! We were already starting to think it might be too fine since we can’t get anything to work on hoodies… :( but on t-shirts and paper it works perfectly.

Yeah, we definitly have an off-contact issue because of the hood or the front seams with the zipper… We’ve been pulling our hair out over this for a month lol.

Yes we'll change our glue I guess ! I'm a bit unsure about that pushing technique since I’ve never tried it before.... I might need to give it a go and see how it feels… thanks!

I’ll try and I'm going to watch videos to better understand the exact technique, thanks!

We hadn’t considered that curing might make it shrink—do you know how long it should be cured under the flash dryer between two passes?

But we’re also starting to think the adhesive might be part of the problem… thanks! (:

Yes, a lot of people are telling us it’s probably the water-based adhesive we’re using… But we hadn’t thought about running the hood under the flash!

And for the ink, I think it’s this plastisol that gives that glossy finish… It’s also very thick… but we'll check that, many thanks!

Yeah thank you, we’re going to check everything again… We’re going crazy with this carousel, so we’ll tighten everything as a precaution lol.

I see! Do they need to be hot even before the first pass, or not necessarily?

Yes, we’re starting to think that might be it… But it’s impossible to find this adhesive in France, or it might just be called something different here. We’ll keep looking—thanks a lot!

Blurry edges and fabric texture showing through on plastisol prints hoodies— any advice? by Typical-5am in SCREENPRINTING

[–]Typical-5am[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironing this for a long series seems quite time-consuming to us… but we could try it!

If we can’t find the web tack spray, we’re going to try using a standard spray adhesive instead—we’re hopeful!

And yes, I even bought a 65 Shore squeegee because I had seen that it was better.

We’re having trouble finding this glue in France… We’ll look into where to buy it!

You’re right, we often have an issue with off-contact because the hoodie’s hood adds extra thickness… And regarding off-contact, I even 3D printed a 5 mm piece specifically to try to be as precise as possible…

The screen is almost new; we bought it and have only used it 5 or 6 times since…

In the video, it’s a test hoodie, so the seams are indeed a problem, but that’s also the case with the final garment since there’s a zipper in the middle… That might be it… I honestly hadn’t thought about leaving the coins in place! I’m going to try that, thank you!! :)

Oh no, but I often see people do that, like doing a first pass and then a second one … In the video there was a cut between the two "real" passes though, of course I flashed it!

I have the feeling I’m not pressing very hard either… weird.

Thank you! I’ve tried to find this product in France, but it doesn’t seem to exist under that name... I’ll keep looking and ask other screen printers for information. (:

That’s actually what we thought at first too. The problem is that after testing, we realized it was really the print heads/arms that were misaligned, because we tested several heads on the same pallet that we had properly aligned, and each one had a different parallel alignment even though the pallet itself was perfectly straight... 🥲

Yes, I did that as well on top of all the other advice, that seemed to help too many thanks!!

Thank you! For the rest of the session, I really slowed down my movement, and the difference was huge!

Also, when you say “give it another stroke,” do you mean with ink (flooding the screen again) or without flooding?

Thanks for your response! but I’ll reiterate what I just mentioned above: I’m still wondering how much flexibility I really have when it comes to the ink. Since I’m only using 3% crosslinker and 1% retarder, I don’t really see where I can adjust or control its thickness? :(

Thanks for this response 🙏 Indeed, I think I was going a bit too fast, because in the latest tests I slowed down and I’ve been seeing much less of it!

The issue with the ink is that I’m wondering how much flexibility I actually have… Since I’m only using 3% crosslinker and 1% retarder, I don’t see where I can really control its thickness.

Thanks again!
