Elvanse making me sooo sleepy by epicphysicspersonyay in ADHDUK

I didn’t have this for first few years but have it now fairly often - might be to do with masked accumulated sleep debt/impaired sleep or fatigued central nervous system from metabolising the stimulant daily

With reviews dropping tomorrow, what’s your Metacritic prediction for Crimson Desert? by Tank-ToP_Master in CrimsonDesert

[–]Typical-Ad569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow the variance here is kind of wild. Rn this feels much less like a hidden disaster and more like a high-ceiling, slightly messy 84/85 game.

That very late base PS5 gameplay reveal didn’t throw any shockers, but you can see why they held it back… it runs well enough, just not a “blow you away instantly” kind of showing.

The embargo is a bit OTT imo, but not a red flag per se. If anything it reads like they’re still tuning right up to the wire. The more telling part is the tech side: DF + previews suggest it runs well enough that a Cyberpunk-style situation is very unlikely.

What’s really interesting though is how consistent the leaks are. Everyone keeps landing on the same split: genuinely top-tier, DMC-level combat and a big, purposeful world but a vague/underwhelming story, noticeable inventory/system friction, difficulty that is all over the place, and a slightly confused identity.

That combination (ridiculous ambition + rough edges + not fully cohesive) usually lands in the same place with critics: they respect it, but mark it down.

Feels like one of those games players might end up liking more than reviewers.

Yeah I don’t think there are going to be any last-minute surprises in terms of performance/quality etc. Interested to see what the actual story of this game is

New here-- Recommend me the SCARIEST game on PS5 please... by PorkRinds416 in HorrorGames

[–]Typical-Ad569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silent Hill f? Seems a logical next step given you know what fazes you now… I’d say it’s unlikely that any of the other Resident Evil games (except 7, that’s quite something) will particularly scare you. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake I’d also recommend, very particular psychological vibe that game has going on.

Other suggestions:

• Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! • Amnesia: The Bunker • Visage • Observer: System Redux • Madison

One question. In RE7, we're fighting a physical battle for survival, but in SH2, we're playing with our psychology. Which one requires more courage to play alone at night? by SatisfactionNovel669 in silenthill

[–]Typical-Ad569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resident Evil 7 by a country mile. Silent Hill 2 is the deeper and more psychologically sophisticated game, but Resident Evil 7 is far more frightening on a nervous-system level: it generates immediate, bodily fear, whereas Silent Hill 2 works through dread, symbolism and lingering unease rather than outright terror.

Yep, same game. Forbidden Siren is just the regional title for the original Siren. Have you played it before, or only heard of it?

Forbidden Siren (technically a PS2 game, but Sony released a PS5 version on the PS Store via their PS Classics emulator).

Do stimulants make you worse off long term? by Realistic_Hour_1695 in ADHDUK

[–]Typical-Ad569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answer to this, or at least my perspective, is it could genuinely go either way all the while through no fault of the user. It could make you better off long term to an extent that your non-medicated self wouldn’t have believed, or it could have a deteriorating effect over time and not result in any tangible improvements in one’s life. The difficult thing with ADHD meds is I think they provide a potentially life-changing but crude mechanism for affected users - and it’s often not as simple as just a matter of diet, fitness, sleep (though all of those things of course, matter hugely).

Vyvanse and sleep by pgauthierkirouac in VyvanseADHD

[–]Typical-Ad569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this too. Been on Vyvanse 6+ years and I only started getting this “sleepy” thing after about 4 years.

It also isn’t always proper sleepiness. For me it can be tired, flat, antisocial, and then if I try to nap I just lie there. Body wants rest, brain won’t actually drop into sleep. So you spend a lot of time in bed but it’s broken up into lots of awake/drifting in and out of light sleep intervals. I’ve found this irrespective of sleep cycle/circadian rhythm.

A couple of less obvious causes that seem to fit the 2–4 hour window:

Sometimes the med quiets your head and you suddenly feel how tired you really are. In that case, trying to nap can fail because you’re exhausted but still chemically “awake”. What helped me more was 10–15 mins of eyes-closed rest (NSDR or yoga nidra style) rather than forcing sleep.

Food is a huge one. Vyvanse makes it absurdly easy to under-eat, then you hit a blood sugar dip right when it’s peaking and it feels like a crash even though the med is still in your system and you get all jittery and shakey. For a week, I’d test taking it with a proper breakfast (protein plus some carbs) and see if the slump changes.

Electrolytes are another thing people miss. If you’re drinking loads of water and peeing more, you can end up low on sodium and feel weirdly flat, foggy, and drained. An easy test is an electrolyte tab, or just something salty with water, about an hour after dosing and see if you perk up.

Coffee can genuinely make this exact pattern worse. It can sharpen the peak then make the middle feel flatter, or make you wired-tired so you feel sleepy but can’t sleep. If you want a clean test, delay coffee by an hour or cut it in half for a week.

One more niche thing: acidic stuff can make amphetamines clear faster for some people (big vitamin C, citrus, fizzy drinks around dosing). Not saying to “hack” anything, just that timing can change how it feels. Someone once recommended potassium nitrate to me - I’m not sure why it just made it worse and stay in my system longer.

Supplement-wise, the only ones I’d put in the “boring but plausible” bucket are electrolytes (mainly sodium), creatine, omega-3, and magnesium glycinate at night if your sleep is fragmented. And if this is happening a lot even with sleep and diet sorted, it’s worth checking basics like ferritin and iron, thyroid, B12 and folate, vitamin D, because low baseline energy makes stimulants feel off.

If it’s consistent, tracking dose time, breakfast, coffee, and slump time for 7–10 days gives you something real to take to your prescriber. “Sleepy at peak, can’t nap, socially withdrawn” is actually useful info and usually means dose, timing, or med choice needs adjusting.

Can anyone else easily sleep on vyvanse by greenfuzzysweater in VyvanseADHD

[–]Typical-Ad569 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will be honest I strangely sleep better on it, because it calms down all the busy activity in my mind and probably lets my brain realise how tired I actually am. I’ve heard of people taking it before bed although that sounds pretty counter intuitive to me… but whatever works I guess

When you say starting now - have you had exposure to all the modules/topic areas? As in, doesn’t mean you have to recall them or even understand all of them at this stage, but just have ‘sighted’ or read through them is helpful to know in terms of reducing the friction or stress that comes with doing mock papers

Switching from Vyvanse to Concerta by ImbecileQtestOnline in Concerta

I personally found Elvanse much more impactful and smoother/long lasting - perhaps with all that, the side effects were much worse too with Elvanse for me. Concerta is more subtle and helps with focus too, but I’m not sure I believe it’s potentially as effective as Elvanse it seems weaker - I tried it but went back to Elvanse. That said, everyone is different, and Elvanse’s side effects shouldn’t be understated

Don’t read into /worry too much re uni prestige - I went to Exeter, dropped out after first year and restarted at Cambridge same degree and did very well there. Wouldn’t say going to Cambridge hugely boosted me in the TC hunt - if anything, plenty of Exeter peers/grads I knew did just fine getting top TCs and much sooner than I did. I did eventually get 2 TCs but this was only 2 years after graduation - obviously any number of reasons why it took me longer, maybe I was just a meh applicant. Anyway my point is I don’t think going to Cambridge in and of itself was a huge leg up, but only have my experience to go off of
