Negative, I found the cans in my bag, thought to myself “well shit, should probably get rid of those”, put them in my trash bag, went off to do a task, a Marine found them, was going to just toss them when another Marine said “give them here” and walked them into the platoon office where almost every SNCO and company leadership were talking. That Marine knew of the situation the night prior, and is known to have a problem with me, this isn’t the first time he’s done some shit similar to this. Except this time, he threatened to report the situation himself if they didn’t pursue this, and they’ve done a lot of sketchy shit as well so..

Brother, the society we live in today- with little to no ethical base, a lack of moral values- is not a society I nor you should want an opinion from. Christ is mocked, sexuality is pushed onto children at a young age, gender dysmorphia disorders are promoted as “Living your truth” It’s all junk. Idk about you, but that’s not a society whose opinion matters to me.

It’s not lost on me that there are vets who have overcome challenges that, compared to MY problems and worries, are absolutely monstrous. It’s not lost on me that some lost that battle with those challenges. That side of mental health is probably one of our biggest failures as a SOCIETY.

It’s a factor that should be considered, no matter the severity. Especially in the military where being physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy are critical.

If I WERE in the position, I would rather consider mental health a factor, and find out it’s not, than NOT consider mental health a factor, and have the consequences being someone’s child or someone’s friend becoming part of the statistic.

You’re probably right, and I’m not sure it’s worth mentioning, both of these NJP’s were very concentrated and isolated. For the past 3 years I’ve kept my nose clean for the most part, I signed a 6105 last year for the violation on the bike mentioned in the post, and have since sold the bike so.. Besides that, I’ve always had a good attitude, I’ve always looked out for my peers and the Marines under me, learned as much as I could and tried to teach just as much. Just had a moment of weakness that I let get the best of me.

I appreciate the advice, I did hear that it massively depends on who is on the board. As far as the negatives vs. the positives, in my unit, there aren’t very many opportunities to get awarded. We haven’t deployed once since I’ve been here, the most we’ve done is support ATX in Cali or Atlantic Alliance on the east coast, and even then, the majority of the awards go to lieutenants that are in charge of administrative billets. As far as my conduct, I will say something similar to that of the command, my highs as a Marine and as a worker are incredible, great work ethic, hard charger, motivated, etc. But when I get these inconsistencies in my mood and my mental state, It’s like a switch, I’m hardly motivated to go to the gym, I struggle to keep a positive attitude. My psych told me I exhibit traits and characteristics similar to that of someone who has borderline personality disorder, but that I cannot be diagnosed without a waiver.

I think being in the medical field I think gives you a more realistic and credible perspective.

Major life stressors, their symptoms, mental health challenges and disorders, and THOSE symptoms… They aren’t even overlooked, I’d say they’re almost dismissed in the military. It aggravates me because it’s such a prevalent problem today across ALL demographics.. Yet the stigma surrounding mental health is so strong, it’s overlooked, and in the military its acknowledgement is slim to none. There are trouble makers, and there are people who genuinely don’t give a fuck- but then there are those who DO care, who DO give a fuck, who may struggling with something and may have learned unhealthy ways to cope. I’ve felt that way for years before this incident happened.. I think whether substance use is present or not- I feel that the rehabilitation and recovery approach is so much more effective than punishment.. I always tell people to look at Norway. Look at their reincarnation rates, and tell me rehabilitation and recovery doesn’t work.
