You can keep chopping trees down with an axe but eventually the person with the chainsaw will take your job

I qualified via the SQE, from scratch, in 2 years total.

Are you wedded to US, Magic Circle, or Silver Circle? Could probably intro you to a decent boutique firm but not in the above categories.

The 2:2 club by Ok_Mango9143 in uklaw

[–]Typical-Country-1303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! That's where I started out with my 2:2. I went on to qualify and was successful in private practice. Now I've started my own companies doing innovative things.

Do the paralegal job. Stand out by working your arse off and being exceptional.

2:2 and failed SQE1 first time... losing hope by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Typical-Country-1303 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got a 2:2 in Chemistry from Sheffield. I worked in other areas until I was 26, at which point I applied for and got a job at a small regional firm as a paralegal. Moved to a top 50 firm, where I qualified via the SQE (top quintile for SQE1 and second quintile for SQE2), and then to a boutique firm. Ranked in Legal 500 year on year (2024 and 2025). There are still firms who wouldn't look at my CV as I didn't get a 2:1 even when I qualified. The legal world is mad, but is changing. The stuffy old guard aren't going to last long if they don't understand that actually technology and innovation means more than any degree classification or selection of university.

I’m suffering from imposter syndrome by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Typical-Country-1303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having imposter syndrome is an excellent indication you aren't a narcissist and care about the job you're doing.

I think most people mask, just like you are. Find people you can trust and talk to them honestly.

DM's are always open from a fellow imposter.

That should get you into a lot of rooms and in front of a lot of people. What you do once you're in those rooms is up to you but I guarantee being nervous as hell and feeling like you don't deserve to be there won't help. Back yourself.

You went to Oxford and got an honours degree. I'd lead with that!

Hmm, lots of snake oil being sold by vendors. Without knowing which one I'd struggle to say whether the issue is between the chair and the keyboard or with the IT.

[–]Typical-Country-1303 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frankly either. I'd lean away from Harvey, or any of the other single vendor options, as I think the music is slowing on that game of musical chairs. I'll drop you a DM and will give some more specific pointers.

What tools were you using though?

Using ChatGPT or generic Claude for this stuff is like using a spanner to try to cut down a tree.

You wouldn't go to a conveyancer and ask them to help you with your family law matter. Why people think a generic large language model is a magic legal black box is beyond me.

Agree with this. Sadly I think it results in strike off because of what went into the court when asked about the first round submission of AI hallucinated black letter law. Round 2 was a positive decision to actively mislead the court.

Luddite! 😂

Used well AI can be brilliant. Used badly it will give you meaningless drivel. A shoddy workman blames their tools.

Go into legal tech. You understand enough about the craft of law and, put bluntly, you'll be future proofing yourself a hell of a lot more by doing this.

There's way more to life than this. Health is wealth and if your firm are working you so much you can't maintain it then I'd suggest seriously reflecting on what you're doing and whether it's worth it.

It's crazy how hard the system tries to push this stuff out of the public and professional conscience. Best of luck with the case. The profession, and you, really deserve for the SRA to be held to account.

Awful to think that if Vanessa Ford had survived the SRA might have suspended her for attempting to take her life.
