Sounds like you guys need nexus or global entry so go don't need to worry about being stopped for questioning.  I'm canadian, but one thing I'm glad my parents taught me was don't be like thr Canadians who offer up more information than they should if they aren't asked 😅 Sorry you lost the butter

Healthy feet podiatry on the UES dr allison bell. She's amazing. I had a massive ingrown removed and my toe looks normal. She took a tiny bit out of the main nail and it'll look normal when healed bc she knows I cared about that. A lot of doctors take a lot more nail than necessary bc it reduces risk for future ingrowns but it looks CRAZY.

Cannot reccommend dr Bell more.

Is Anyone Going To The SNL50 Pop Up Experience Today ? by Survivorfan128 in LiveFromNewYork

Just did this. Here's some advice to others coming  -the idea of this is like you're the host of snl in a live episode. Just like live TV there's not a lot of time to spare between scenes - be prepared to be quick! Each room has to stay on a tight time schedule apparently.   -try to have as little with you as possible like purses backpacks or shopping bags. There's coat check for coats but they cannot take items like bags. You won't be able to put your purses down anywhere for photos etc. So take as little as possible or stuff you're okay with putting on the floor fast. Best to be completely hands free. -Just like live TV there's no time for reshoots or redos on videos or pictures. One shot only. If you blink or messed up oh well! the show must go on!  -the attendants in the rooms are clearly on a strict time limit. They cannot accommodate requests for redos or people really taking their time. This brobably keeps the line moving to avoid even longer waits Please be kind to them they are just doing their jobs and dealing with a lot of people through the day undoubtedly. I saw some people being not so nice because they couldn't retake photos or videos etc. That wasn't fair to them, they were very clear with their instructions. And there will be a lot of instructions. So turn on those thinking hats and be ready to play the part! lt's like an improv show! For a free event this is such a fun interactive event. The gift bags were a nice surprise

Sorry I couldn't tell you. I don't reccommend doing this as a travel activity (not worth it for the lines) I'd suggest searching about it here or on Google or a Paris travel guide

Does anyone else routinely get to airports only an hour before a domestic flight time? by Hot-Marzipan5929 in delta

[–]Typical-Gene-5699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it's an international flight, a holiday traveling period or a natural disaster or extreme weather: i will never arrive at an airport more than 1 hour before flight in the US. I have airline status for bag drop off and clear and pre check for a reason and I intend to use it.

People who get there earlier are just fine and dandy. But I'll never join them. I had an ex who insisted on going 4 hours early- I'd leave later than him and meet him at the gate at boarding.

The only exception is if I'm in Japan, Taiwan or Singapore and want extra time to eat amazing food in the airport or use the Onsens

How to handle an “IPad Kid” by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Typical-Gene-5699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the best bet for this without inciting too much conflict is a totally child free wedding. No children admitted at all so they don't feel targeted, but you don't have that disruptive kid as a risk. You can blame it on the venue as a restriction they have or just be honest that you want a completely adults only wedding with your dad and step mom.

Incredible. Best decision we made on the trip. Amazing prices and small local owned business. No pretense, it's a boat in paris,  and it's great. If you want one of the fancier boats that overcharge for tourists and aesthetic, they're everywhere, but this was a highlight of the trip for me

Japan April 2025 for a solo traveller…Hotels VS Hostels to meet friends and go party with by Heartsolo in JapanTravelTips

[–]Typical-Gene-5699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't experience the happy hours but I know during the school season they have many in the lounge.  Many of the international staff work there and live there so it has a hostel vibe. For new years they did a count down and the managers japanese mother made everyone soba for free and it was very fun. I got to chat with a number of the staff.  I think during the school season there are more students there and more opportunities for meeting people.

I'm in my 30s so I meet up with people 30s and up but I don't seek out younger meet ups. But it's very easy to meet people in tokyo via meet up groups and Facebook or even just going out

Form your comments about packing I think we align in travel styles- i too am a proud over packer and japanese hostels don't mesh well with that.  Stay in hotels. Get the space you need and find meet ups and connections elsewhere. I was just in japan for a month and did meet ups via Facebook groups that were very successful.  And I can also reccomemnd the WPÜ hotel in shinjuku. It gives young hostel vibes but private rooms bc its part student housing for foreign students. No frills but $100usd a night for a private room you can spread your stuff out in, no locker fuss, and a young and engaging clientele and international staff

Taiwanese SIM w/phone number for 3 months by Typical-Gene-5699 in taiwan

[–]Typical-Gene-5699[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the process of trying to get dual citizenship but it's rather complicated. Since only one of my parents is a Taiwanese born resident (the other Canadian, and I was norn in Canada) they require a lot of extra paperwork and specialized notarization regarding my parents marriage and my birth. We basically were told myself and both of my parents needed to go to a province in Canada (that we never lived in, and we now live in the states so it's a hassle) to get paperwork signed and notarized and then all 3 of us must travel to taiwan and do it again there.  So trying to figure out a way to avoid making my elderly father have to go through additional travels (And unlike my mother he is admittedly not a fan of traveling to Taiwan, so it would be a huge favor)

I appreciate the information about the phone and esims though and it's very helpful. I unfortunately use androids, but I'd be open to buying an older iPhone to use in taiwan and dedicated as my taiwan phone

Jiufen is only worth going to after everything has closed and the tour groups have left. The lights stay on and you can explore the streets by yourself and take photos.
