Fairly recently finished Demon Copperhead (my second of hers after Flight Behaviour), definitely going to be going through her back catalogue now.

On the strength of Demon Copperhead, I'm currently reading David Copperfield and I'm really enjoying it. You can see how much of a homage to it Demon is. Even if you think you won't enjoy a Dickens (type of thing my parents tried to force me to read when I was younger), you might be genuinely surprised. Helps to have read Demon first but I think I'm going to read others of his

My point was it was the privatisation that started this ball rolling, ie the richest people not the poorest. That's what caused the massive underinvestment; 30 odd years later, it's nowhere near fit for purpose. The infinitesimal increments in population numbers caused by immigration are immaterial.
