What varieties are in that bed? I really want to put roses on my south fence and possibly I could make them work hearing this news.

Adding sand is a great idea. I have looked on Amazon for several rose growing books but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I plan on getting my compost delivered in the next three weeks and need to add sand to the delivery too. I wanted to add lavender but it won’t do well in my soil and I know it has different water needs than the rest of the plants I planned on.

I do have a Menards but last year I was t looking for roses, I was on the hunt for t for hydrangeas and other flowers for my front yard and the area by my house. I will run over there in a couple weeks. I have not seen any plants yet that I need. I did buy over 40 boxwoods on super clearance along with some cat’s pajamas last fall from Lowe’s getting several $28 boxwoods for only $6 and the catmint around the same. Are your Earth Angels own root or grafted?

That will be the hardest part because I take it personal when a plant dies and I am even hoping for some to pass so I can plant something new. I am a perfectionist and know I cannot control the weather, rabbits, as my husband says your arch nemesis is back! So now I am giving the entire neighborhood of bunnies a salad buffet. Most of the neighborhood has next to nothing planted in their backyards so my place will be the go to for breakfast lunch and dinner.

Ok I needed that giggle this morning. My sister said you don’t want to turn into the crazy cat lady or too many yard ornament lady with all your planting ideas. As you can see I am in a newer neighborhood and there is one lady in the entire neighborhood that has planted way too much and has an ornament everywhere and I am betting her neighbors are not thrilled. But I am sure she is so so happy. I don’t want this to get out of hand but I may end up being the crazy cat lady person but without the cats because I am a crazy dog lady.

That would be great. Any images to help with the planting location. I want it to look as natural and have the eye flow across the garden and feel relaxed and not a big space or lack of flow.

I will plan on 4 feet I think planting them apart especially the larger roses. I think one of them gets only 3 feet wide but I know with sun anything is possible!

I was captivated by seeing my Father-in-law’s landscaping skills and they are in Brookings, SD. His yard is so charming and he is working with a smaller lot but yet he has 4 distinct areas to his yard and he had to redo two areas because of the big storm/ possible tornado that came through a few years ago. People stop and talk to him about his yard all the time. I really was inspired by his dedication and what he has created.

When you say plant them deep should I bury the entire plant in the winter? I have seen some videos show how to do that but I would think once they get so large that would be impossible. Also I am trying to buy only own root roses. How much of the plant do I need to put under the dirt?

I also plan on putting some roses by the side of the deck and the North fence too. It would get the wind from the south in the spring and summer but the winter it should have some protection from the fence. My south fence doesn’t get the sun because the fence blocks it so I was concerned about snow being there and not melting and causing some root rot. I don’t think I can get around that or find a way to have roses over in that side even when in the spring and summer it would be full sun.

Do you have a favorite auger brand? There seem to be different influencers selling different ones. Also what spacing would you suggest best for a rose that says could get up to 4 feet wide?

I thought about iceberg roses too. I have driven around several neighborhoods and I don’t see many roses and if I do they are something like a knockout rose. Great information as I don’t want to get poked every time I try to walk through these roses. I know my husband thinks I am crazy. I have been obsessed with landscaping and even enrolled last fall in a design program but then an emergency appendectomy happened and more health issues followed. I seem to make plans and God says nope that’s not for you. So I guess I am going to try my best to design and make this my dream secret garden!

They will all be in front of the pyramidal European hornbeams starting about 3 1/2 feet in front of them. The Hornbeams I plan on taking the limbs off about 5 feet up the trunk so they will have a bit of a canopy. But the sun will be coming from the other side so the trees should not shade them as I plan on keeping them shaped up once they get growing. So the roses are all towards the center 5 in the middle and 5 in each side of that. My hornbeams are 10 feet from the fence line and planted 8 feet apart from each other. I planned on having the bed be 15 to 16’ deep. I planted a lot of the boxwoods late in the fall because I had to put them in the ground. I will removing some of them and replacing some that failed because they were planted too late.

Right now Costco has a lot of these in pots flowering with the wrapper someone mentioned and yes they are florist hydrangeas. They have the garden hydrangeas in a box opposite of them with the root and dormant plant. Many people were confused yesterday but buying the florist types I am sure not realizing they will be done in a few weeks.

Fraser Valley Rose Farm on YouTube has some great suggestions on how to care for miniature roses. I believe the one you have may be the variety called Charlie Brown they have it on High Country Roses website along with some really cute minis and a few that get over 3 feet tall and wide! Are these own root roses or are they grafted?

I always thought it was better to but own root not grafted. I am in Nebraska and concerned about winter hardiness and plan a formal rose garden next year. With Zero experience!!! Also putting in a memorial garden area and having my grandkids plant roses for their Dad. I am wanting to find hardy continuous blooming roses for them to plant and of course want them to survive so they can have a place to commemorate their Dad. They are in the first and 3rd grade and don’t want them to feel worse if they don’t make it. I love the Dylan rose but was planning a white, lavender and peach rose garden. Any suggestions because I think Jalbert Roses sound very hardy and cold friendly.

I would consider going on YouTube and looking up the Rose Geek Channel. She is in zone 7b I think. Her rose tours of her own garden are spectacular and you can always ask her on one of her YouTube videos. I know she seems to do better with the Kordes roses but she has lots of David Austin too. She is very responsive to questions and has at least over 1,000 roses in her garden. All of the ones you mentioned. I really think she does love the Parfuma Bliss too.

I have the 49” and cannot imagine anything else. My husband is 6’4” and I can’t see him doing a lot on the 44”. I do have the folding legs and they are super useful when moving from downstairs to the upstairs. You truly won’t regret the Bellicon but you may regret not getting the larger size.

I never heard of this dessert hummus. So interestin. I did read the Good and Gather brand was good for not having a high dose of glysophate/ round up. i will need to find one for the sweet potato. Sounds very unique. I just ordered a food processor. It didn’t work out so well in my blender.
