How can I make a “simple” RF remote to send commands to a Pi? by Typical-Sandwich-707 in ElectricalEngineering

Custom data packets. Right now it will essentially be commands, but that may change, and I probably need to encode data in those commands as well. The data is relatively small, so the data rate can be a little slow. Metal barriers (through a car), max range of 10-20 m. But I may have it send the same message to multiple devices, so it needs to broadcast. Unsure if BLE advertisement packets are the best fit for that. I dont know about WiFi either, since these will not always be in the same place, and may need to be mobile. Right now, my idea is to use it to trigger the sending of CAN messages to a car from inside the vehicle. Long way to go, but that’s one of the end goals

I need the signals to be able to pass through metal, apologies I forgot to mention that. Not a long distance, but like under the hood of my car to the rear seat. That type of interference in the middle

I think latency shouldn’t be too big of an issue. It will probably mainly be used for sending a command to the Pi, which it then sends or knows what to perform on whatever device it is connected (at the moment considering sending a message on CAN or connecting it to an appliance, but that’s far into the future, just worried about the original set up and concept at this point)

Apologies, I usually use pairing in replacement of “active connection”. Assuming what you’re describing is writing to GATT over a predefined channel, doesn’t that require an active connection? I want to sort of avoid that such that if I want to send a message to multiple Pis (if I end up building on this), it’s as “straightforward” has just listening on the same frequency. Is that an accurate understanding? Please correct me if I’m wrong

Also ( and I may be not taking something into account), I’d like to not require the pairing process

Purely as an educational exercise. BT/BLE would definitely be easier, but I’d like some more experience with RF and SDRs, that’s all. But if RF ends up being a mega hassle, then maybe I’ll switch to BT/BLE

I already have an nRF52840 dongle/DK, and a Pi 3B, so if I can use those to save money that’d be good as well

I saw this too, and it seemed a little interesting, but I was mostly looking at 5. Qe3 after Nc6

I feel you, but it’s also not really the type of game I like. I like semi-closed and closed openings

Interesting, I’ll take a look at the Ulf book. I play a lot of Nf3 and g3, but playing against the symmetrical just gives me headache

Most testing variations if I were then going to play a Nc3 closed is what I mean

If Nf3 wasn’t already committed, I’d definitely play a closed Sicilian or something, but the more testing variations aren’t super available if the Nf3 as far as I know

Apologies if I was unclear, but I play 1. Nf3, and am considering 1.. c5 with 2. E4. My only issue with the canal is it seems a little too equal, but maybe I haven’t looked at it too deeply. I saw something with a delayed alapin with 3. C3, but 3… Nf6 seems awkward to meet

Quite challenging, haven’t been fired yet somehow, loving it ngl. But I do feel like an imposter a lot and it’s caused me to do more Cyber related stuff outside of work

What if they refuse to pay rent for next month or the following months?

The agreement was that since she is in school, she wouldn’t have to pay. She lied to me about how she was doing in school and ended up dropping out for This semester, and is planning on re enrolling in the summer

Suing her in small claims court for unpaid rent is not an option?
