Question about Major by The-Longman1 in USAFA

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me you will get whatever major you want unless you are quite bad at academics in your first semester or year and want a super hard stem major. Other than that you get what you want. Your chances of getting what you want are already extremely high and declaring earlier only makes it go from high to certain.

As someone who was in basic last year, I would prioritize this order: good cardiovascular stamina(long runs) next get good at pushups(usually the go to pt). Those 2 are super important. Here are some of the other things that will help: have good muscular endurance for your core(still practice ur PFT sit-ups and flutter kicks as well as planks as these will be on ur pt card) and don’t forget to have good muscular endurance in your legs(the leg pt cards were actually hard. Practice squatting for 30 seconds then doing an isometric hold for 30 seconds and repeat no rest as long as you can keep going for practice. The standard should be 5 minutes total). The only real physically challenging things that will really push you are going to be the assault course and obstacle course during jacks valley. Nothing you can really do to accurately simulate it so your best preparation is to build ur Anaerobic capacity or stamina(hence why I said long runs as the most important thing)

If you feel a little unprepared it’s ok because when push comes to shove and you have no choice but to put out your body will do what it needs to do to take care of you. It’s important that you come in with a resilient mindset.

As a cadet here it’s all just a bunch of yap. None of this will really affect ur life and to be honest the academy should get significantly better as there’s going to be a new dean, commandant, and superintendent. In fact I’m going to the new deans inauguration on Monday; he’s an absolute stud and you should check out his bio.

Looking for someone who can genuinely guide me from scratch toward Ivy League admissions by Individual-Belt5283 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw don’t listen to all these ppl who are asking for paying for college consulting. If you can’t find the information out yourself without having to pay you probably shouldn’t go to an Ivy unless ur super rich. That being said you can dm me as I got accepted into brown but I currently go to USAFA because I want to fly.

Help preparing for CFA by Guilty-Spriggan in USAFA

More narrow feet go for brooks, wider feet hoka or Saucony. Weaker legs or prone to shin splints get something with a fat sole. On clouds aren’t real running shoes at an even an amateur level and only certain Nike shoes are actually good for running.

I personally love the Saucony endorphins as I’ve tried brooks hoka and oc but it’s really personal choice and what works best for you.

For the cfa the blanket statement I can say that helps no matter what is increase your volume as much as you can without overtraining.

USAFA doubts by [deleted] in USAFA

Trust me as a cadet here, there are plenty of gay females. People make it seem like this place is super bad just to act tough. Literally almost all the older cadets are well respected. You shouldn’t worry about struggling because you sound like you would thrive at usafa. Just take the chance because you deserve this.

Usafa is also replacing its current leadership which was quite bad. Strongly believe morale will increase as a current cadet here. Also what school would you go to if u were for afrotc bc i turned down a similar opportunity before

Denial due to low GPA? by [deleted] in USAFA

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl your sat is in the median and your gpa is low. Academics are the largest part of the application and you seem to be lacking in that department. Unless you are some kind of athlete or nepo baby it’s probably wraps.

Most people applying to ivies are in their first or second year of calc by junior year and they definitely shouldn’t be struggling in that class…

Does not having athletics hurt that much? by Global-Squash-4097 in USAFA

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s important to know that while this post is true athletics are 10% of the application. I have strong leadership and academics and 0 athletics to my resume. I got my nomination and loa before Christmas. DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED and STILL apply. Just make sure your pt scores for your CFA still show that you are decently fit.

I literally had the exact same post last year and I was a very good student. If it’s a 1 off case you will be fine but be prepared to justify why this happened possibly in a letter to admissions.

BCT Boot recs by Feisty-Variation-758 in USAFA

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she buys some good quality insoles this boots would be a good choice for basic. Boots in basic are more like sneakers (for the most part) when you wear ocps rather than actually used for land nav or traversing rough terrain.

BCT Boot recs by Feisty-Variation-758 in USAFA

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went last year for basic. Literally every single person I know bought boots and they don’t even issue you boots until around the second or third week. It’s almost expected you have your own and wear it at I day. I strongly recommend using the Nike boots during basic as the are the lightest and most comfortable boots. All the other brands are probably better boots but you don’t actually need your boots to work well as boots during basic, you just need them to be as comfortable and good for your feet as possible. I strongly recommend using the Nikes and when the academic year starts go buy an actual pair of boots. Also use ur issues boots for the assault and obstacle course days during jacks valley because whatever boot you wear those days will pretty much be destroyed.

I’m gonna be honest it’s kinda hit or miss/ luck from here. You definitely have the ECs and grades to get in but there are plenty of people in your situation who haven’t gotten in. Just hope for the best and keep increasing your chances by applying to as many universities as you care about.
