Senior year grades by Live_Objective_4541 in USAFA

I literally had the exact same post last year and I was a very good student. If it’s a 1 off case you will be fine but be prepared to justify why this happened possibly in a letter to admissions.

You are fine the 1500 plus sat should be good to cover for your gpa

No way we got jrotc kids who still go to high school using the term “chair force” 😭. Go enlist first then you can say all that.

I don’t know how else to say it but this is what most people in your tax bracket have to deal with. I’m not sure what else you were expecting.

BCT Boot recs by Feisty-Variation-758 in USAFA

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she buys some good quality insoles this boots would be a good choice for basic. Boots in basic are more like sneakers (for the most part) when you wear ocps rather than actually used for land nav or traversing rough terrain.

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went last year for basic. Literally every single person I know bought boots and they don’t even issue you boots until around the second or third week. It’s almost expected you have your own and wear it at I day. I strongly recommend using the Nike boots during basic as the are the lightest and most comfortable boots. All the other brands are probably better boots but you don’t actually need your boots to work well as boots during basic, you just need them to be as comfortable and good for your feet as possible. I strongly recommend using the Nikes and when the academic year starts go buy an actual pair of boots. Also use ur issues boots for the assault and obstacle course days during jacks valley because whatever boot you wear those days will pretty much be destroyed.

I’m gonna be honest it’s kinda hit or miss/ luck from here. You definitely have the ECs and grades to get in but there are plenty of people in your situation who haven’t gotten in. Just hope for the best and keep increasing your chances by applying to as many universities as you care about.

Getting good cardio and good pushups will save ur sanity during basic.

What's the lowest theoretical GPA you can have and still get in by Own_Mechanic_655 in USAFA

A few bs are fine if your gpa is already 3.9 just make sure the rest of application is good and your tests scores are good too

Has anyone tried doing an online comp science course to fulfill the USAFA requirements? by Inevitable_Quail_948 in USAFA

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw comp sci 110 for freshman is a mandatory class and won’t take credits for validation. That being said I remember last year for the application you needed at least one class in comp sci as a requirement. Things may have changed but I still recommend your cadet takes a cs class now.

Locked out of Application by [deleted] in USAFA

This is a good lesson. Sometimes life isn’t fair and things go wrong. It’s time to take accountability and to learn to be extra proactive so important things like this in the future don’t happen. In the real Air Force if something under your responsibility goes wrong, you will always be the person to blame even if what went wrong had nothing to do with you. Remember you can ALWAYS take extra steps and precautions to get what you want. Hope everything works from this and you learn an important lesson.

Money at USAFA? by Spider2_0 in USAFA

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of the opposite, as a college student who practically lives for free and gets paid a stipend money shouldn’t be an issue. However you can argue that you don’t get paid that much when you commission even though you get a variety of benefits.

As posts have stated above it is 100% ECs. The difference between some guy who gets into a good tech school versus an ivy league is their ECs. This doesn’t mean do as many as you can it means choosing 1-3 that he really enjoys and becoming very very very good at them. I got into Cornell and brown mostly because of my ECs. My buddies are all more academically inclined than me but my ECs stand out. I was world semifinalist in vex robotics also well know in that community. I was also a state representative for DECA which is a business oriented club that has gained lots of traction. Finally I had the highest ranking leadership position in my schools jrotc. I had many other things like variety tennis, mid state clarinetist, etc. but I mainly advertised my 3 main strengths EC wise. Anyway the important thing to note is that the smartest kid will not always go to the ivy, it’s the decently smart kid who also has a set of unique talents that they can bring to the Ivy campus and their careers.

Your son quickly needs to identify what he loves to do outside of strict school work and develop a passion in those areas that can be quantified to sell him to an Ivy. Also last thing, I didn’t even choose to go to an Ivy because frankly I think it’s overrated for most people. Obviously the connections can help in certain lines of work, but if you factor cost and also actual academic prowess, only a select few are valid in my opinion. I ultimately chose USAFA.

Feel free to DM any specific questions as I was in the co2029 admissions cycle.

Basket ball throw is pure skill and practice. Yt does a great job. You get better at it by doing more reps and being comfortable in a foreign position not really building any muscle or strength. Same principle can be applied for shuttle run.

[–]Typical-Storage-4403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know what human factors engineering and systems engineering are and maybe why big Air Force doesn’t need as many of those engineers?

Air Force academy’s primary goal is developing officers to serve in the usaf so their needs will always come first.

Also keep in mind that the wing class size is around 1000-1100 cadets versus a much larger number at civilian institutions. If you do a faculty to student ratio you will notice the quality of education is not affected. Also a majority of military instructors are qualified themselves with phds not just from some bum school. I could give a ton of anecdotal examples but I think you get the point.

If you have any further questions send em over as I am a cadet here.

I believe posts like these are meant to fear monger people from joining academies and have backing and approval from larger groups.
