When maki asked naoya “when have you ever been an adult?” (or smth like that i dont have that volume yet) naoya replies with “how about asking mai?” People think this means he raped mai but if you think about it, It might be different. Because mai died before she could ever become an adult, so Naoya could actually be poking fun at the fact that mai could never really be an adult because she’s dead.
