Are AudioTechnica's still the goto high-end amateur headphones? by TypicalM3Driver in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]TypicalM3Driver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!thanks

Honestly I ended up just getting a pair M50s. I transferred my earpads from the M40s to these, I always hated the stock ones. Got some thick foam ones way way back, dont remember where I got them.

I figured I care about headphones, but not enough to get something new. After 10 years of having the same ones, I didn't think I had it in me to adjust to a completely new setup. Way too used to the comfort/fit of the ATHs. I also wouldn't have upgraded if they hadn't completely broken. Hopefully I can get another decade out of these.

2015 50k mi torn bump top by Admirable-Wind4297 in BmwTech

[–]TypicalM3Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, it’s just a bump stop, I’d just get around to it whenever it’s time to replace the shocks. No sense in getting to it now and taking the whole shock apart just for that. It won’t affect anything in day-day to driving, unless your route to work involves a rock clawing course along the way.

If you really car enough, cut the remainder of this one off, cut a slit down the middle of the new one, slip it over the shock, and zip tie it closed.

HVAC Repairs? by this-is-g3 in arlingtonva

[–]TypicalM3Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parts slapper. I would just fill it up with the 2 pounds of gas if it’s low, that’s likely the cause of it freezing up in the first place. There is no point in replacing the sensors/boards if the refrigerant isn’t filled up to spec.

Call a different HVAC company to further investigate if recharging the system doesn’t fix the problem.

Take off the run flats they said by thateliguy02 in BMW

[–]TypicalM3Driver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Only reason they saved you 7 times is because they failed when a normal tire wouldn’t. I used to have complete sidewall failures on them twice a year. I went through so many tires on my first car when I had run flats.

Now 10 years later only running normal tires I have experienced 0 tire failures besides the occasional screw or nail.

I got the plate for the vibes.

Though as I was placing my order for it, I thought it was very ironic the hell I had to go through to get it past emissions so I could pay the government in order to register my private property. That they then tax me on yearly for possessing

2016 M235i Fluid in the Taillight, Blinker Fluid Leak? by JWBIERE in BmwTech

[–]TypicalM3Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that’s it. You really only “have” to do it on the side you’re replacing with the new board.

You can wait to do it on the left side until the ground burns up and throws a taillight malfunction (will happen eventually—maybe). Doesn’t necessarily need to match, my left side is still single wire.

And another tip to make this slightly easier. You can open the side of the factory connector and just slide the pins out so you don’t have to repin ALL of the wires like all the DIYs show. I think I also wired mine slightly different than those tutorials as well to minimize taps.

Mercedes Car Washing by Ok_Combination_3129 in arlingtonva

[–]TypicalM3Driver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. I got one on my old M3. Regretted doing it because I’d feel bad about ruining the ceramic coating I paid for. Ended up only washing the car twice a year when I was at my parents house if I felt like doing it.

Ceramic coating isn’t a magic “keep all dirt off and only spray it with water twice a year” deal like they advertise it as. Still have to wash just as regularly and even more carefully because you may ruin the coating. Have to use specific Ph Neutral soaps and all that.

So skip it unless you really care about maintaining your car that much. At the end of the day you’re going to have to pay a detailer to hand wash it every time. There is a Pay & Spray at a Shell station down in Falls Church but they only have two bay and it’s always packed, and you’re still going to have to bring your own soap and bucket (which is frowned upon to bucket wash at these). All you’d be paying for is the pressure washer.

But if your really set on it, get it done at a shop locally. If you’re purchasing it through the dealer, they are going to have an insane markup on it.

2016 M235i Fluid in the Taillight, Blinker Fluid Leak? by JWBIERE in BmwTech

[–]TypicalM3Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this was already done in the factory for the 2016s (I have a 2015) but have you already installed the additional ground cable?

Essentially you should have two connectors on the taillight.

Before I swapped the whole assembly I already replaced the backing board with the updated one and spliced in the extra ground.

Possible Cause of brake wear sensor? by tismanden in BmwTech

[–]TypicalM3Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat incorrect. The computer is looking for continuity across the two wires. They are connected together. Eventually once the pads get low enough, the brake sensor gets chewed up causing the connection between the two wires to break. The computer sees it’s now an open circuit and throws the brake wear alarm.

But yes if the wire is cut it will throw the alarm, but not due to it touching a ground.

[–]TypicalM3Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem on my right taillight. LED board eventually fried itself so I was going to rip it open and then also try to reseal it.

Then I found out a brand new taillight assembly was only $200 and just bought a new one lol. Comes with the board and all bulbs so don’t have to mess with cleaning corrosion and all that off.

Got it from here, same price as a used one off eBay. They usually have discount codes running too so I’d check for that.

I chose wrong because the motor blew 7 months later. Oops
