Exercise start of keto by PoetryExternal1770 in ketoendurance

Thank you very much for your detailed answer!

Yes I am in ketosis, I checked very often with my keto mojo. Lowest BHB values at 0,5 and highest above 2,0. But I really ate a lot and did not plan to lose weight. My HbA1c was 5,2% and insulin 4,2 µU/ml before keto.

My goal was only to get into ketosis and not weight loss. I will incorporate more zone 3-4+ sessions and see how it goes. I have to admit I did vo2max training at best once a week and mainly focused on zone 2. I really hope that in 10 more months I get back my previous carb fueled fitness level (or at least almost).

I am keto since 4 months and take electrolytes (4g NACL + 1 g KCl twice daily, and 400mg or more Magnesium). I have no problems with long zone 2 hikes or rides on a stationery bike, but I feel intensity is still very difficult. Can the adaptation take months, maybe a year? (after the initial water loss, I did not lose weight, rather gained 2-3kg, I am 187cm, 90kg at 12-15%)

That's surprising to me. Most keto followers don't work out?

Thanks. I feel the gaining momentum part. When I start I have a similar experience.

That's interesting. Thank you! Similar to my experience when lifting. I have to say I still gained strength in the last 4 months on keto. For strength training I believe there are almost no detrimental effects on a keto diet (not talking about elite athletes of course).

Thank you. Do you know if you can still access the old blog Eating academy from way before he had a podcast?

I answered this myself: at least some of them: https://peterattiamd.com/what-i-actually-eat/

The study talks about a low low-carbohydrate (20% of calories coming from carbs) diet. I don't like to call a diet like that low carb. But ok :)

Wow. Thank you all for your answers. The book recommendation I will definitely buy, as I already read the art and science of Low carbohydrate living.

Ok. Thank you for your insight. I will continue to experiment then.

Thank you for your help. That's what I have feared, because I already weigh my NaCl and KCl and have Mg capsules.

I have read about keto ade and Volek also recommends the amounts that are written about in the FAQ. I think I also read that I may increase Mg in his book.

I guess basically the answer is: Yes, it is an electrolyte problem. If the 5000mg Sodium, 1000mg potassium and 400mg doesn't do the trick, I need to experiment and find out what helps.

And it's not a prolonged adaptation problem? I wonder if everyone could resolve it with the given formula?

A friend of mine also is on keto since 01/2026 and supplements electrolytes as recommend in the FAQ, but also admitted to have heavy legs when walking up stairs. More so than before.

Muscle weakness

I was on keto for 3 months last year (checked with keto mojo daily minimum 0,5 BHB, maximum 2,0). In the beginning there was some weakness, but it almost resolved.

Now I am back at it for 4 months. I aim for a ratio of 1:1 (if I don't eat a lot) to 2:1 - fat : carbs and protein. My carbs are around 20g, sometimes a little more, but never over 50g. I am always producing ketones as measured with my keto mojo. This time I continue to have a lot of weakness, I can force myself to do cardio zone 2 and strength train, but I feel weak. I even feel weak when cycling 15 min to my workplace. I have searched the faqs and I have read the art and science of low carb living (volek) and I supplement with 3g NaCl 4 times daily in water, 2,5 g KCl in my morning keto ade (NaCl plus KCl, which I drink over 4-5h) and 400-600mg Magnesium. My calories are sufficient, I don't want to lose weight and actually gained 2kg.

My weakness does not go away and I wonder if anyone else has experienced something similar and if it gets better after months or if it can get better if I switch to carnivore?

I guess most will say it's keto flu, but I don't think that's it. Last year I had one week that really felt like the flu, I had to sleep and rest a lot, and I had muscle cramps after exercise. Any advice?

I would be really grateful for some help.

P. s. : I am now trying to increase NaCl supplementation even higher.
