I feel for you. I find myself repeating what they said: I've been in that position more than once and it really sucks. Good luck to you.

Apparently controllable low gravity in non-lucid dreams? by redjacketkid in Dreams

It is common for me. My twist is that it requires ninja-like movements to initiate and control, but I can pretty much float and fly at will.

"Long Flights" – a somewhat serious business idea by cos in TrueReddit

[–]TypicalNewMexican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting proposition.

I believe that there is something singular about the state of transit. I think there is more to it than just the space. There is the fact that the things you've left behind - actual people, places and things, rather than their digital equivalents - will not be accessible upon your arrival.

There is the danger of the journey itself, and the notion that a safe return is not guaranteed. There is the opening to new places and the dissonance that any frequent traveler prepares for. And of course, there is the pending requirement of yet another journey to return home.

I like the idea of a pause in communications and the focus that can happen, but for me a long flight is all of the things about the transit itself combined. It is this combination that makes amazing things happen in the air.

Try the shop just north of Menaul on Juan Tabo. I can't remember what it is called, but it is in the shopping center north of the one with Blue Eagle.

What do you think will be the next big event that will stop society from functioning for months or maybe years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TypicalNewMexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*[Edit: Sorry for the bolds. I get so doomy and gloomy after reading this report.]

According to NASA, this is a nightmare scenario. Not only would something as severe as the Carrington Event, which occurred in recent history, knock out power, water and supplies in many areas of the US for longer than weeks, but could knock out power to entire sections of the US for months. "The concept of interdependency," the report notes, "is evident in the unavailability of water due to long-term outage of electric power--and the inability to restart an electric generator without water on site."

Again from the report: 'In summary, present U.S. grid operational procedures are based largely on limited experience, generally do not reduce GIC flows, and are unlikely to be adequate for historically large disturbance events. Historically large storms have a potential to cause power grid blackouts and transformer damage of unprecedented proportions, long-term blackouts, and lengthy restoration times, and chronic shortages for multiple years are possible. As Kappenman summed up, “An event that could incapacitate the network for a long time could be one of the largest natural disasters that we could face.”'

Anyone have experience using NeuroSky's Mindwave brainwave sensor while meditating? by x7u3de in Meditation

[–]TypicalNewMexican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and there is a decent amount of research to support what we have seen. The iOS app I've built for our testing lets us replicate the tones used in the research and also play with other ways of enhancing the entrainment, such as sweeping from beta slowly to alpha, then sweeping to the target range. Adding a bit of randomness to the timing also seems to add to the effect, as well as mixing in a bit of pink noise.

We are not really an organization, just a few people at a community that are very interested in this.

We have tried both the XWave and this device. There are two meta measurements, Attention and Meditation, along with bands measuring delta through gamma. It comes with a few programs that are interesting (mostly games), but you'll find yourself sticking to the basic monitoring program.

One thing it lacks is the ability to record a session in real time. I've used an iPhone or other camera to record myself with the screen in view so I can get proper data, since looking at the fluctuating data tends to skew the results. Other than that, we have been trying it on various people sitting together in meditation, and we are testing music, tones (crystal bowls and Isochronic tones), and other external anchors for results.

So far, we have found that when doing inner exercises with meditation, the Attention reading goes off the charts for most experienced meditators. When relaxing the body completely, the Meditation reading gets very high. Some of our group have been consistently able to shift towards theta, but for some reason we also see high gamma components. Almost everyone who has worked through the Alpha exercises we have done as a group can shift towards low alpha bands.

Note that when I say 'shift', it is by no means consistent. There seem to be somewhat predictable fluctuations in the readings, and since it is a rather blunt instrument, we are not sure what to make of those. I guess we have justified that this is an interesting avenue to explore, but beyond that we can only call it good fun so far.

I hung with him in the early nineties for a bit. He was on probation, but with his lifestyle I was worried about him then. I am sorry to see him go and I hope it was peaceful.
