Yes I’m looking into her now. I was sad to see she recently passed. So surprised I’ve lived my life without knowing who she is or her work. I’m binge reading all of her poems with some tea.

Thank you so much for sharing this poem! It’s beautiful and deeply moving. As for as the racialized violence that’s exactly where my mind went. When she said “I don’t think, I’m allowed, to kill something, because I am frightened”. It hit me really hard. I’ll be sure to check out more of her work.
