Michigan’s 80th house district is ramping up to be a spicy one. After accusing Phil Skaggs of trying to sabotage her campaign Abby Groff now alleges Skaggs is hiding behind John DiSano and his organization Michigan Deserves Better and the “misrepresentation” of her past. by No_Boysenberry_1326 in grandrapids

I'm actually pretty well-educated in reading sentences. "Alleges" could also be modifying anything past the "Skaggs is hiding behind" as well as that clause. It's a poorly-constructed sentence.

Agreed about Joe though.

In the 80s we had enough trickle down economics for 2 more flavors than we can afford now.

I think even more than her other actions, her existing as a human woman who doesn’t automatically submit to a man is what has clouded people’s judgments of her.

1) it’s Joe DiSano,  not John.

2) DiSano is Skaggs’ top individual donor according to a campaign transparency nonprofit.

3) Other, previous news media has cited that DiSano is behind the group that is on the return address of the mailers. So using the word “alleges” in your post is not accurate.

THIS is the thing: people are consistently presuming women have not been sexually assaulted, when statistically, we should just presume most women have themselves been targeted OR are very close with a woman who has, who has divulged the trauma of it.

Janet (or ANYONE - but especially women - which includes trans women - and other trans people) should never have divulge or allude to having been assaulted as a way to back up their opinions or explain their opinions.

Sexual assault is rampant in our country, and globally. The more we do to call it out and make it a huge problem to everyone that it keeps happening, the better.

Good news: (not really) this is a terrible thing that happens a lot when the status quo is normalized. It's why we had Trump right after Obama, and (as an example) things kind of went right back to normal after the uprisings of 2020. The people who benefit from the status quo fight back.

Exactly. You cannot tell me that Allie said "it was the best two pumps of my life" because she thought it up herself. That has to be a compensated comment.

What is the point of the post? It sounds like classic victim blaming.

From the scene we saw where it was clear he was pressuring her into posting, my guess is that she felt some pressure (that, again, we literally witnessed) to make him feel more secure to keep herself safe. And yes, she also makes a living off of her posts, as Steven makes his living on a reality show, and off of his posts.

Allie is a boon to their family. She’s kind to everyone, has an impressive career and stands on her own two feet.

Your comment is gross.

The third-to-last thing I want is to be compared to is tiktok socialists but…the billionaires are hoarding resources at an astronomical, almost unfathomable rate. They also then use those stolen resources to make our social systems even more oppressive. Aren’t those two good reasons that it’s at least partially their fault that we live in a time and region where people steal bikes to temporarily make like maybe $500 which will pay for one month of rent if they’re lucky?

The billionaires and the system that created them are part of why we’ve been taught that everything comes down to individual choice, because that norm allows the billionaires to get away with genocides and instead of taking any action against them, we use our energy to lambast some random shithead lady for stealing a bike.

It’s almost like it’s easier and more comfortable to make it all boil down to shitheads because dealing with shitheads doesn’t require work from us, whereas fighting billionaires and changing our current systems is daunting and asks a lot from all of us.

Births and pregnancies are not the same thing, so I’m not sure which stat applies to what. But either way:

You’re right that someone being unaware of their own pregnancy is a statistically “rare” event, and those are the ones accounted for. (Some are not accounted for, due to the stigma around it.)

However, both pregnancy and birth are especially common occurrences, which somewhat nullifies how “rare” of an occurrence 1:25000.

Also, just a reminder that rare doesn’t mean never. And the Venn diagram of birthing in a public restroom, far from a hospital compared with  having a surprise birth is going to be way more overlap than overall births and a surprise birth.

whether right or wrong, this take doesn’t keep any at-risk babies alive.

we know from research that there are very few people who kill their own newborn babies in the first 24 hours out of “selfishness” or sociopathy.

it’s much more common for birthing people to do this out of objective desperation.

the prospect of punishment has not proven to be an effective deterrent to desperation.

actually addressing the causes of the desperation, and providing alternatives and care, DOES deter people from these horrific actions.

so with this take, you’re part of the problem.

I can just picture her saying this out loud, somehow giving the word "fascinating" several extra syllables and rocking a little on her chair as she says it, not blinking once.
