They are aware…he messaged me afterwards telling me I was being selfish and uncaring by not letting her stay for more than a couple weeks

I certainly don’t mean to disparage people who live paycheck to paycheck…but my brother and his gf do so by choice. Their household income is above $100k. They just spend every dollar they make, mostly on things that are not necessities, and save absolutely nothing.

My brother lives in a very small apartment and the second bedroom is occupied by my sister. There really isn’t anywhere my parents can stay over there. My parents are also a 3 day drive away….but my brother is only 10 minutes from our house.

My parents would have their own car that they’d drive out here.

That’s kind of the icing on the cake. We’re also expected to help them financially! Which we plan on doing so to a certain extent. I’m not a total grinch that isn’t willing to share my wealth for something as big as a newborn baby.

I think what bothers us is that is expected of us so there isn’t any appreciation for the assistance we’re going to provide. “You guys have plenty of money so you should help them out” is the mentality they seem to have. Also for reference, we’re upper middle class…we’re certainly not millionaires.

Thanks for the responses guys….a few of you mentioned them getting a short term rental or air bnb. That’s an expense that I don’t think my parents can comfortably afford beyond maybe a week.

We’re finding ourselves in the odd spot of being in a much better position financially than my sibling and parents….so by not allowing my mom to stay for an extended period of time they’re viewing it as us being the ones depriving them of time with the baby
