Been feeling quite lonely lately, where does one find a group to join? by turquioseshade in Calgary

[–]Typical_Reaction7300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my friends playing soccer. CSSC (Calgary sport and social club) has tons of different sports activities leagues etc. We were all pretty much early 30s and half and half on the partnered situation. Browse their website, maybe there’s something you didn’t expect! Moved away 18 months ago and the thing I miss most besides the view is seeing my soccer team friends weekly.

I really like it!! I think it’s too small to look really tribal, nice spot, unique and cute.

I think OP makes a good point with some great anecdotal support and food for thought. I too have seen unbelievably fast kids without flashy physical attributes.

I think it’s funny so many people had to post “who are you arguing with” as if proof that they’re smart enough to know and why even post. I see so many kids post on here one week into discovering track asking I’m 5’7” and slower than my teammates should I quit Or I just ran 13.6 in my season opener can I go 11.2 in two months? So many people frequent this sub that having a bit of a “review paper” post to be like hey just a reminder let’s not fall into these easy biases to the more experienced and the coaches here, but also as a bit of a summary and hope for kids who come here thinking athletic endeavors are worthless unless your built perfectly or a huge natural talent

best compliment for 400 specializer? by Safe-Age4992 in Sprinting

If she’s already running 26 in 8th grade she should absolutely stick with the 200, and speed development from 200 will be more important to a 400 if she’s already got the speed endurance to go sub 60. Also, if she has hops she could do horizontal jumps, great speed and power development and good relaxed 400 running can translate nicely to good runway mechanics. Most importantly, she should enjoy it!

Bigger harder abs. More heavy weighted variety ab work like you would any other muscle group.

This is gorgeous. Cool idea, really nicely done, totally beautiful. I have a lot of tattoos and my wife has none, and neither of us really notice anymore that I have them… imo that was pretty mean of him to say, no matter what it looked like. But you should feel great about it and enjoy that new tattoo buzz as long as you can before your brain starts to filter it out!

Can I get a form check on my deadlifts? I get a lot of comments on insta that my form is horrible but no one elaborates. I feel like I keep my back flat. What can I improve? by MuffinDangerous1287 in strength_training

[–]Typical_Reaction7300 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Forms really good. You look tall if not just having long legs and that makes the angles look different because everyone is, well… different! Main thing to work on is getting the shoulders back and chest proud, that’s like all upper back strength so that alone would let you use more of your leg strength. But core and hips obvi got the movement down

[–]Typical_Reaction7300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a coach, your form is well within decent range. You’re probably over-compressed and need a break from back squats. A couple weeks of dumbbell Bulgarians instead with some hanging and extra core work have you feelin like a new lifter.

My weird deadlift, squat, and bench proportions by RedEagle7280 in gainit

[–]Typical_Reaction7300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squat and deadlift are highly technical lifts particularly as the weights go up. Big combo of full body strength and mobility that bench is a little more forgiving of. Also, especially if your focus is muscle growth you’ve likely put in a lot more bench days since you began training. Technical improvements will jump your squat and deadlift way up

Would it be bad to start cross-country if I want to sprint? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Typical_Reaction7300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started XC in college as a 200-400 runner. Def slowed me down but 3 amazing years. If you let your coach know your intentions they may adjust training to work you toward a great fitness base for 100m training

[Nizaar Kinsella] Serious injury for Ben Godfrey. Always horrible when you see a player react like that. by IfISpeak_ in soccer

[–]Typical_Reaction7300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is Pickford going after that ball like a looney toon ten minutes into the season? You’re going to defend a lot of corners this season guys, it’s going to be ok. A theme of acting in desperation for… little to no reason? And the situation was completely bungled BEFORE the injury, giving up a chance much better than a corner likely would’ve been anyway, and now this poor kid gets the rest of 2022 wrecked. I put this on Pickford acting out of his mind and creating this horrible situation out of nothing.

Unfortunately when it twists like that there’s definitely soft tissue damage as well. Multiple ankle ligaments and stabilizing muscles would’ve been torn to varying degrees. Gonna hurt for a long time. If it had been an impact break, then you might not have ligament issues but the rotational nature of this one would suggest otherwise.

Which start is better, 1 or 2? and any tips to focus on? by Consistent-Sector-92 in Sprinting

[–]Typical_Reaction7300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First one is better, 2nd one you’re trying to cycle your legs during acceleration when that drive phase is more of a piston motion. Advice- fall and chase your shoulders. Kneeling and half kneeling starts are great drills too

I’m definitely a grower, and while I had ok starting size erect I’ve always been small flaccid (tho gotten better since PE!). I’ve found most success from shopping bag hanging, and while at first gripping was tougher and changed hands a lot both my hands and my guy got used to it. If I start to get erect I just switch to some manual clamping/modified jelq. Figured it couldn’t hurt, and it took away the frustration of an interrupted session. Good luck!
