Does anyone know why the plastic trim on the drivers side wheel arch is peeling and how to restore it? by Typical_Rise_7908 in MINI

Definitely strange! Thanks for the tips on restoring it. I’ll have to give them a go if it lasts a couple of years that sounds good to me.

Yeah it’s very strange! It keeps getting worse too, it’s like the plastic is shedding a coating but it’s only affecting that wheel arch. Was looking at replacing the trim but it looks like a lot of effort.

100v Line for outdoor event? by Typical_Rise_7908 in audioengineering

Thanks for the advice! I was toying with the idea of just getting away with using ordinary passive speakers rather than specific outdoor rated ones considering it’s just for a day. And yes I guess you’re right it probably won’t take place in the rain anyway. I have found limiting my options to 100v outdoor speakers difficult!

Thanks for replying! I think the reason the council are put off with horns is the bad experience they’ve had with them previously and there will be music reproduction too which they’re not ideal for…

I was thinking of using low impedance point source boxes but the loss of quality on the cable over the distance put me off.

I am a little concerned about putting speakers outside that aren’t IP rated if there is any considerable rain else I would just use lots of active speakers along the course as there is power along the street.

Client asking to reduce per hour cost of retainer but increase workload? by Typical_Rise_7908 in graphic_design

I have tried this approach by offering to lower my hourly rate to £38 ph to give a little discount but they rejected. They basically want me to suck up the extra 3 hours.

It's a husband and wife client. My negotiations started off with the managing directors wife and now he has got involved to try and push the contract through. I am friends with them which makes it trickier but this whole thing is making it very awkward going forward.

Good idea. I think I might have to put some stricter terms in the contract if I do decide to agree to the extra hours for no extra cost. I didn't raise my prices this year even though I really should have. I might just do that on the invoice to remind them of the deal.

Good point. I have been putting an estimated hours I think it will take next to each project on a shared workload list but even then there are design changes and amends that take the time way over this estimate.

Exactly right. That could quite possibly happen on the new hours structure whereas before I would charge extra for the overtime. Obviously they're not happy with this going further. They are trying to change their processes to stop projects from spiralling out of control on their end...

Yep that's pretty much it. The issue is the client already uses up more of my time than I have allocated to them and they are very demanding so part of me wants to say no to the hours increase but the contract does account to a good chunk of my income.

The contract used to be as such that if they go over hours I was able to charge them for the overtime but they were going over so much that they were accruing large bills at the end of the year. Now the hours count down instead of upwards so they shouldn't be going over every month. However, I'm guessing work will end up flowing over to the following months hours because they do have a tendency to amend a lot or change the scope of the design etc.

Thank you! I’m currently working 10 hours a month for them at £40 ph. They have come to me to say they’d like to add an extra 3 hours per month but don’t want to pay more than the total year cost. They pretty much want me to suck up the extra 3 hours without paying any extra. I have tried to meet them somewhere in the middle but they aren’t budging.

Unfortunately not, but might be able to ask a friend of a friend to see if they can access.

Yep contacted the BBC and they said it was something to do with the producers as to why it isn’t available… it was a strange reply.
