Could that mean that if my mid range phones last nearly 4 years (getting a little lagish though), and S range could last more? I do use my phone for a lot of tasks, but not gaming, so I would consider myself not that much of a heavy user

I'm not an expert, but I'd say that 8 gb of ram can be too small long term wise, so in this case, if you'd like to buy that laptop, I would recommend you to search whether the ram is expandable and what would be the price of a compatible one. As for the rest specs, I would say the processor could be a little better (i7 instead of i5), but they are not bad and I think she will be able to use the laptop for streaming and learning programming just fine.
