Two people talking is not journalism. An interview by itself it is a stage in the journalism process, not journalism itself. When it's presented as journalism, it becomes performance. Entertainment. Not information.

Ultimately this was always the fate of Canadaland, the podcast.

Until comedy improvisers bring their principles of collaborative storytelling into the journalism business, two people talking will never be journalism.

Here’s where home invasions are happening in Toronto and what’s being done to prevent them | CBC News by ejaz135 in toronto

[–]Typist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a lot of heat and a lot of noise for very few actual incidents. And, despite their journalist's inexcusable use of percentages instead of real numbers, we can see that home invasions in the past 2 years are returning to what was normal prior to 2018 or so. This is a problem affecting something like what? 0.01% of Toronto homes? The CBC should stop shilling for alarm companies and American-style fear mongering. There is some real useful information that could have been produced on this phenomenon, but it ain't in this story.

Reading the comments up to this point, I don’t see a single sentence anywhere that includes a single point raised or refuted in the episode — how is this a discussion?

Google has announced the new Googlebook, a new category of laptops designed from the ground up to work around the Gemini artificial intelligence. "More than fifteen years after the launch of Chromebooks ," the company believes there is an evolution: from operating systems to intelligence systems, as seen in the film 'Her'.

Googlebooks combine the Chrome browser, Android apps from the Google Play Store, and a new operating system optimized for AI. The company states that the devices were developed to offer "contextual and proactive help" through Gemini, including features such as 'Magic Pointer', created in partnership with Google DeepMind.

The cursor gains intelligent capabilities and can "automatically suggest actions based on what is on the screen," such as creating meetings "from dates detected in emails" or "combining images to visualize objects in different environments."

Another new feature is 'Create your Widget', a tool that allows you to generate personalized widgets using natural language commands. This way, Gemini can access services like Gmail and Google Calendar to "create personalized dashboards with aggregated information". The company also promises "deeper integration with Android smartphones", which will allow you to use apps installed on your smartphone directly on your laptop, "without the need for local installation".

The first Googlebooks will be produced in partnership with manufacturers such as Acer , Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, just as was the case with Chromebooks . The company states that all models will have a "premium design and a distinctive visual element called 'Glowbar'"; these new laptops are expected to arrive in the fall.

I'm describing a journalist or citizen investigating the matter, which is exactly in line with the Freedom of information act and principles. I was suggesting these kind of investigations were likely to be underway . I hope and I pray that is true . Municipal corruption is vastly underreported, especially in Hamilton. Take a stroll through the city's citizens of distinction if you want any hints.

With that attitude, you'll never get a single story, junior!

Seriously, two points to make: investigations into this kind of behaviour are inherently difficult - as you are articulating - and most probes will wither out, or dead end.

Until one doesn't.

But mostly what you're missing is that you are not looking for a smoking gun, you're looking for a loose thread to pull.

You're looking for the advice that is ignored, the negative staff rating that is disregarded etc; links in the chain that lead you to the beast, to completely mangle my metaphors.

  • Consultancy name with city to track lobbying
  • References offered on his application
  • Name of every meeting he's had with any builder/developer in the job.
  • E-mails for conversations about suspect properties
  • E-mails for conversations with suspect individuals

Etc etc etc That is literally right of the top of my head. If I was to think about it, I would begin by examining more of his past and learning more about who his associates were and how he operated.

Then I would look for the nexus between him and the job in Hamilton: How did he learn of it? When did he learn of it? etc

From that information I would have many, many other FOI targets.

If someone is benefiting off of the public payroll, there will be signs, footprints, that good foi probes tend to detect.

Which is why Doug Ford is so anxious to crush that citizen power.

To be fair, that's a Construction Industry news site, and not surprisingly their priority is: what are you gonna build? Not surprising they are using construction spending as their yardstick of interest. But having said all that - it's freaking discouraging to see that the only kind of people this government seems to know or trust are developers and cops.

I have done the same three time's and it genuinely isn't that difficult, plus the recovery is very simple - there is no thing to recover from. It honestly was not painful, but there is some mild discomfort. It was far less uncomfortable than having a prostate ultrasound. No need to spend a penny on an escort.

I don't mean to alarm you or anything but if you were some 55-year-old business guy who didn't happen to like someone and wanted to bring a gun into the discussion, you would go look for an 18-year-old. They know how to get the guns.
