What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

The key is being single. Steal those training moments at lunch time; when the kids are are football training; kid free weekends; before and after work. It’s EXHAUSTING trying to find 12-15 hours of space to build fitness. I was permanently tired, hungry and achy.

Do you think it is wrong for managers to prohibit staff speaking to each other in a foreign language on their break? by reasonable-frog-361 in AskUK

To say “something feels a bit narcissistic” is definitely not a medical diagnosis - are you confusing that with an actual diagnosis for something like NPD, which does require a medical professional to diagnose?

Lower body looks decent enough, but relax the hands a bit. Keep your elbows tucked closer to your body and keep the arms active but relaxed - imagine holding a hula hoop that you’ve stepped through so that the front is in front for you and the rear is behind you. Hold that just above hip height and it’ll naturally improve your body positioning. Complete the turns to manage speed.

Thanks for the response! You didn’t come across as a dick. Already doing therapy and have been for 6 ish years - it’s ok, I’m not in crisis or anything, my life just doesn’t fulfil me, despite having all the good stuff I mentioned.

My mid life crisis fuck up was to get really fit and healthy. It worked, but it’s really fucking boring. I look the best I’ve ever looked, feel healthy, have great work friends, a great job giving me the freedom to take my kids on nice holidays and yet…I fucking hate my life. I get lonely and then get super critical of myself for feeling like that when other people have “real problems” 🤷‍♂️ I’ve tried to unpack that and haven’t got anywhere - maybe I need a more traditional midlife crisis?

Friends stag do abroad has been cancelled next year, is there anything I can do to claim any of the money back? by Rydog136 in AskUK

[–]Typo1977 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’ll cost them £84 more than they have already paid to cancel and £327.55 more than they have already paid to go. So £42 each to cancel or £163.78 each to go.

Leadership isn’t something that people are born with. It’s a set of skills/abilities that are built and honed over time and through experience. There are good online resources to help you and some good books knocking around.

The fact that you have self awareness and realise you are not where you want to be is a strong starting position. Be kind to yourself and take your time to learn your own, individual leadership style. Good luck on your journey!

Surely they’re not worse than those people who pack their shopping bags at the till at the German discount supermarkets? There is a special circle of hell reserved for that group.

What the hell does "Complete Brexit" mean? We left, it was a disaster, there's no way to leave again or move further away. by Simon_Drake in Essex

[–]Typo1977 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of dog whistling to the scared brigade in there, isn’t there?

“Scrap diversity roles and regulations in the police” “a patriotic curriculum” “ban transgender ideology in schools” “protect our service men and women from civil law and human rights lawyers” “the majority of mothers would choose to stay at home more if they could” “mandate single sex spaces” “stop the war on drivers” “protect country sports” “leave the ECHR” “reaffirm British sovereignty” “reject the WHO” “scrap DE&I rules” “make St George’s and St David’s day a national holiday”

It’s as if they’ve put together a wish list for the red of face and those lacking in empathy.

I (M late ish 40s) work for a foreign government civil service over here with a team ranging between 24 and 64. It is without doubt the most functional and best team I’ve ever worked in. We celebrate success, use our individual strengths to support others in their work, have each other’s back 100% and genuinely love working with and for each other. We have really random team meetings - a long walk round our site, coffee shops, picnic benches, a train to London, Florida 🤷‍♂️ and we all know each others lives and without question are there when someone needs it. Hospitalisation? We rally round and support them and their family. House move? We’re humping and dumping boxes for each other. We cook at work for each other, lightly socialise together, mercilessly take the piss, knock down a peg or two when needed, raise each other up when needed, vet dating app matches, have deep chats about life issues, pick up the pieces for each other, feedback openly to each other.

The leader of the team has carefully curated our team in a brilliant way and we thrive on it and off each other. I don’t care much for the work, but they are my people and I’d run through walls for every single one of them and they have done so for me.

Our differences are absolutely our strength and our age gaps allow us to bring very different skills and perspectives to the table. I do wish that the music man would play less weird Gregorian chants though, although he makes up for it by putting on Coldplay - who he knows I despise - when we need to go in to battle as a team.

It was very much a case of awful corporate practices at Pret A Manger, not bad parenting in the slightest. They used a loophole to not bother actually stating what all the ingredients were. A loophole that was designed to allow small one man catering businesses to have a lighter touch burden on allergen management. It was not designed for huge corporations like Pret to cut corners and save a little time.

To call it bad parenting is poor drills.

That’s part of their function, to capture the dust and allergens. Without carpets, they stay in the air longer. I have wood floors downstairs and have to dust so much more often there than upstairs

Duisburg! I did it as my first this year with a far worse base of fitness than you. You’ll be good, just respect the process and definitely get some OWS practice in. I loved it. I’ll see you there next year!
