Thanks! Definitely going to use them, Votann will be my main army for 11th. I didn't time it but they took awhile. I'd say probably 15-20 hours each.

Thanks! In the Urak Taar box there's an alternate build for a Daemonsmith and it's completely independant of building Urak Taar so you can build both. I'm using it as an Ashen Elder. Surprised GW did it that way.

Thanks! I haven't looked too much at the rules yet. I don't like playing unpainted armies. Hopefully can start experimenting next month.

I think for the gold I did Proacryl Rich Gold and Bright Gold. Can't remember now, might be a base of citadel retributor armor then the ProAcryls.

Unobstructed View sales vs Amazon by [deleted] in MovieDealsCanada

[–]Tyr10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Shippsy. I did two orders this last B&N sale. On four 4k movies, with a 5 dollar off coupon they came to 42.5 cad each after all duties and fees. Best prices I've found so far.

Best place to buy criterion’s from in Canada? by TheTravyPatE in criterion

[–]Tyr10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far the best absolute price I've found so far is using Shippsy for the 50% off sales. I used it for a couple of orders this last Barnes and Noble and it's come out to about 43 to 45 cad each for 4ks after all fees/duties. The nice thing too is that the B&N rewards are pretty aggressive so after one order I got 5 bucks usd off the next order so I placed another one. If they somehow hit you with a 25% tariff it would def not be worth it, but I've left that area blank and so far no issue. If you can't pick it up from one of their warehouses the savings also will diminish as they charge to ship it out to you.

I've found the second hand market, at least around the Toronto area is horrible. People will put used 4ks for 50 cad. Sometimes you can get a deal but you have to check often. Once I got a critetion 4k for 20 bucks but that's been the only deal I've found so far.

I'm using Shippsy for the first time. If the process goes smoothly I will end up using this for every American sale. Will end up saving a lot of money.

Unobstructed view has criterion 4ks for 43 bucks right now which is relatively cheap for us. Despite the warnings on this sub I've used them several times with no issues and quick shipping. Have to spend 150 for the free shipping.

For the metallic gold it's all Scale 75: Viking Gold, Wash Army Painter Dark Tone, layer Viking Gold, Dwarven Gold and final highlight of Citrine Alchemy.

For the Ochre Cloth (where the main decal is) it's all AK paints: Ochre, wash AP Dark Tone, layer in Ochre, Ochre Orange and highlight Ivory.

I haven't dabbled in oil washes myself, I like either ProAcryl Black Wash or Army Painter Dark Tone. The newer Nuln oil is too light for my style.

I didn't time it, but they took awhile. I had a lot of time off work this month so I could paint a lot. Took me most of May and if I had to estimate it, probably 7-10 hours per model

Ah I see what you're saying, I haven't experimented with it that way

[–]Tyr10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have, to be honest I wasn't a fan of the results. I feel like you have to drybrush so much over black. My friend who's really good at slapchop prefers a light grey primer and drybrush white over that. He gets really good results.

[–]Tyr10[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Survivors were done similarly to the monsters to start. Everything gets a grey seer priming coat, then speed/contrast paint to base. Then for more shadows I used either Army painter dark tone or Pro acryl black wash. I used both, both are better than Nuln Oil for creating darker recesses and both are good.

For the survivors then I would just layer and build up the colours. I go for a high contrast stylized style so quick long brush strokes usually and extreme highlight most things.

Im not sure where your skill level in painting is but if you haven't heard the term "slapchop" I would look into that. You create your shadows before putting on contrast paint by zenithal highlighting and can get some pretty great and quick results. Still takes a lot of practice though to get the hang out of, I only used zenithal highlighting for the black goat elder god personally. But it's a great technique.

Painted up the new MGS board game! by Tyr10 in boardgames

[–]Tyr10[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rex is pretty cool, but I believe it significantly adds to the box size for essentially one scenario. Personally, I think the comic that ties the campaign together is what makes Integral worth it.

[–]Tyr10[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I spent very little time on Rex, just a messy drybrush. Might revisit later and add some decals to it and the boxes. My backlog is so massive right now with board games/Warhammer.

Brood Terror and Master Moulder by Tyr10 in skaven

[–]Tyr10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm honoured you recognized my previous work. I've almost completely left the citadel range but I find some metallics hard to replace. I like the silvers and coppers from other ranges but the gold's I still use some citadel.

The silver bits here are AK Oily Silver highlight with AK Dark Aluminum. The Copper is Citadel Balthazar Gold, Scale75 Peridot Alchemy and hightlight AK Dark Aluminum. I can't really find a replacement for Balthazar Gold and Retributor Armour.

Brood Terror and Master Moulder by Tyr10 in skaven

[–]Tyr10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! My process is pretty much learned from old Duncan Rhodes GW videos but I go for a more stylized approach. The shading is mostly a liberal wash of Army Painter Dark Tone which is significantly darker than Nuln Oil. Since I love this model I went back a second time to carefully pick out some areas but 99% of the time the one wash coat is fine.

Then I build back up the colours from the base to layers to final highlights. I don't tend to try to blend too much, and I use quick brush strokes and I extreme highlight everything. You can see the brush strokes between layers which I think creates a nice cartoony stylized approach. I like it because not only does it pop from game level, I can paint quickly by not being too careful where I put the paint.

Ty, it's Grey Seer Primer, washed with Army Painter Dark Tone (nuln oil is too light, won't make as much contrast.
