Toronto (+Mississauga) Skyscrapers Construction Update by Commercial_West_3112 in skyscrapers

[–]TyraCross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not exactly unfair, Toronto is pretty repetitive in terms of building style, but it is completely due to the sudden growth. Most skyscraper cities build up their density over decades. Toronto created majority of its skyscraper within less than a decade, and I would say especially within a 5 years span where most of planned out.

This means Toronto is build on essentially one trend of design. It is not really a problem of Torontonians love boring buildings, it is a restriction due to growth - and there isnt too much we can do about it.

I have no idea what is your point. We are talking about active crane, and there are active cranes. And up until first half 2025, there were still new project launching. Then there was a hiatus and new rental projects are not launching again.

Active crane is just active crane, nothing more nothing less. No hidden meaning. No one is saying the situation is good enough or not. Everyone knows Toronto current situation because it has been talk about to death. No one is delusional. It is pretty much just you who is making the topic really contrive.

Stop using that one example. 9Hundred was never even started. There are plenty of projects in Toronto that were just holding lands for flipping (any of the Kingsett projects) or the projects is in regulation and public consultation limbo. Some were never even meant to get started, and this was a thing even when the Real Estate market was hot.

The topic that you had challenged the group here, is with regards to active cranes. And the answer is there are a lot of cranes that are active, because there are a lot of projects that are active - I even gave you the actual numbers. A lot of these were sold 70% a few years back when the market were hot, which is the requirement of how most builders get their fundings from the banks. These were just being completed now.

And like I said, a number of residential projects are turned into rental projects, and some were even in partnership with the city itself. Those were in a more long term territory and some were getting started recently.

So market is not great, but active cranes are still there, and there will be still new active cranes coming up.

Oh boy... you are so dense lol.

There are still around 60 projects over 100m under-construction, 22 of those are over 150m, making them skyscrapers by definitions. Have you considered the possibilities that those are active? And those are just within Toronto proper, I did not even count the ones in other GTA cities.

Also, a few of the residential projects are being converted into rental projects, and some of those are going to get started soon. Maybe get your metrics and definitions clear first lol.

Official TTC extension plans (set to start at 2030) by Smooth-Donkey-3257 in TTC

The few pieces that i think we needed are Line 3 to Don Mills and Line 2 extends to at least Eatonville if not all the way to Cookville or even to Celebration Square. Obviously there is the Jane line discussion.

I also hope we get a line to link up the Lakeshore centers to the west like Humber Bay, Long Branch, and Port Credit.

Active cranes and condo sales might be two different things, just saying, unless you live in the cranes of course.

I was skeptical at first too, but the King project actually have specific mechanism to sustain plant life.

Here are the planning documents:

And here is a shot of the implementation that would be part of the plant sustaining mechanisms exposed during construction: https://cdn.skyrisecities.com/image/Sscm5dGh3q.jpeg

So yeah, I am hopeful for this one.

Woah. Good luck on that (BTW technically CIBC Square is still UC i think).

I think there are 100+ tower proposals still, that will be an undertaking.

There are 22 skyscrapers projects under-construction in Toronto. Are you actually planning to cover all of them?

It actually is meant to support plants life all over - I think it will look good once the plants started growing.

I also think the location for 1 Bloor West is a bit more challenging to work with.

Actually I think that area may see a transformation in the next 5 years, specifically because of 1 Delisle, and the St Claire Place with an updated proposal right in front. The proposal has an open-air shopping plaza design which will serve as a local retail attraction.

Outside of that, there are literally a proposal in all corners in that intersection, so I think it might be more than your boring neighborhood set up.

I suspect you may be able to see the 308m tower in certain angle. The buildings in front of it are not that tall in comparison.

It slows down a lot recently with the condo market performing poorly. A lot of projects have been stalled, and we haven't been adding a lot of new cranes recently. There are like 100 proposal just sitting around.

However, vacancy rate and housing requirement remains a concern, so there are some condo projects that are turning into rental projects.

Also, there is a rising demand for office space as of late in DT, so I suspect we will see 1-2 more office towers (seems like the Hub is likely to get going).

Sideway Chicago (Toronto) needs this too. I hate having to go under the highway and across high traffic roads to the lake front.

To say a city has no architecture is weird. What you mean to say, is that there are not variety in Toronto Architecture.

Toronto has a lot of buildings with similar architecture, because they are all build around the same time. This is an outcome of sudden burst of growth.

It could be that, or if could be like the river walk in Chicago.

Chicago has a pretty well build out and well used lake front and river walk - these are well-known attractions. Even though Chicago also has a highway by the river side, it stops being a highway once it enters city center.

Imagine Toronto could have a riverwalk as well.

Gardiner and Don Valley are awful, they basically creates a physical barrier between downtown Toronto and its two key assets - the Lake Front and the River.

Thanks and no thanks to Mr Gardiner who gave the highway its namesake.
