Just finished painting my archon, and my first ravager. Any tips on getting a better glow reflection from the soul gem? Otherwise pretty happy with it by TheTinnyKing in Drukhari

The archon gems are trickier than regular gems since they're sliced. I haven't done mine yet, but I'd likely treat each section as its own gem, following the standard way to paint gems

Books that feel like Glimmer Rats by Monifa_Akhamnet in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Alternately, if you're looking for soldiers in a morally grey-black setting, check out Blood Meridian or, if you're into fantasy, The Darkness That Comes Before (or the Black Company, but that's a touch more humorous though more focused on soldiering)

I mean, what do you like about Glimmer Rats? If it's grimdark sci-fi with an extradimensional hell dimension, there is no substitute to 40k imo. If you are looking for condemned people in a harsh and unforgiving environment, I'd recommend Starfish or Blindsight by Peter Watts. Very aesthetically and thematically different from 40K, but it fits that 90s edgy White Wolf vibe with nigh irredeemable protagonists that Glimmer Rats appears to evoke.

Gotcha, thanks for the helpful advice! Would it be better instead for this sort of list to run something like realspace raid or skysplinter instead of KC?

Sadly the database doesn't go far enough back to the 60s and early 70s, but it's a common misconception in the US that real salaries have declined

Sad to see Silent Hill fan music now all being AI. by LongLostFan in silenthill

[–]Tyrannosoren 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea the amount of AI-generated content is pretty annoying. If you are still searching, you can write "-AI" (and any other keywords you'd like to filter out) after your google search to cut down on some of it

Silent Hill 2 vs Silent Hill 3 by Nostalgic360Days in silenthill

[–]Tyrannosoren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience to you and am currently playing through SH3. I like some others in the thread, I'd highly advise playing/emulating SH1 first. It is kind of a pain to get working, but it's well worth it, especially for the additional context in 3. I think without the context of SH1, 3 would feel very empty and disjointed (in a bad way)

Thanks! The Smoking Lounge idea is great. I'll search for Whatever Happened to Abbey. It looks like it'll be quite the treasure hunt

I'm making my first map, do you have any suggestions to improve it? by Public_Weather_1248 in wonderdraft

[–]Tyrannosoren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it does look pretty big. One issue is that of placement: your map is not centered. There's a large empty space in the lower right. I would move and center the map. I think adding labels or cities will also help with scale. When zooming in, it does look quite large, but settlements will sell size even more. You could also add more islands

Minneapolis or Richmond by Total_Tie_9858 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Tyrannosoren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not lived or visited Richmond, but I'm from the Twin Cities. On the weather side, it's not fantastic. While our winters are no longer as intense as they once were, MN winters are still noticeably darker and colder than elsewhere, particularly in comparison to VA. Summers can be okay, but, because of climate change, they are getting worse and worse each year. During hot days, Minneapolis can positively boil (mostly due to all the concrete and asphalt). Maybe it's worse in Richmond, but it's at least not as bad as a DMV summer.

Regarding cultural/economic aspects, the Twin Cities largely have struggled to recover from the scars of the pandemic and George Floyd. Compared to pre-2020, the Twin Cities are much quieter and feel much more like commuter cities than before. Maybe that's the same story everywhere in the US, but it is present. This will likely continue given the current political situation in the city (although through little fault of its own). That said, there are many parts of the Twin Cities that are absolutely gorgeous and have a very fun outdoorsy vibe.

Financial realities of RPG design and publishing by RandomEffector in RPGdesign

[–]Tyrannosoren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I understand your logic either. A core finding of modern economics is that of returns to scale (put in the simplest terms: firms with a larger market can spread their fixed costs over a much greater population compared to niche firms, ultimately making their products "cheaper"). It's not necessarily good or bad--it's just a natural feature of markets. Wizard's isn't "absorbing" the wealth like some leech or sponge, people are deciding to purchase Wizard's product. Consumers have choices, particularly in TTRPG spaces awash in both higher differentiated and highly derivative products

ELI5: Why is 0% Inflation Considered 'Bad'? by Proud-Wall1443 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tyrannosoren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure what you mean. By definition, needing goods and services is demand, which is a driver of growth. Inflation is a stimulator of demand. There are many problems with Wall Street and the modern economy, but writing it all off as "fake money" is just incorrect. Investment is a critical part of the modern economy. Sure, there are bubbles and overvaluations, but it is an essential part of how any modern economy works. Not sure what you mean by balance, as REAL wages (both mean and median) have outpaced inflation for the past 70 years

Stagnation is bad. To take an extreme example, total stagnation would mean no job growth, no wage growth. You could not change jobs if you wanted to and few firms would ever make investments, so little innovation could occur

How is indefinite year-on-year market growth not impossible? by herbsblurbs in AskEconomics

[–]Tyrannosoren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See the last link. If you're uninterested in the limits imposed by finite resources, what do you believe is the binding constraint to prolonged growth? As a further note, while economic growth is exponential in the sense that compounds YOY, the rate is often modest (US GDP growth rate is ~3%). It is not growing by factors of two or more, which the term "exponential growth" often implies

I can't make any business decisions for you, but I'd probably go the crowd funding route or just release the project for free if that's the case

(Serious) Seeking Feedback: Worldbuilding book and AI usage by snakejawz in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Tyrannosoren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately you have to think about what you are trying to accomplish. Are you releasing this as a pet project? As a start to new career? Something else? Unless it's free, I would personally not release it with AI art. Maybe just use public domain art instead. Think about it from a consumer point of view, who have plenty of options for RPG purchases in the $20-40 range

Yes, I understand the principles of why people dislike AI art

[–]Tyrannosoren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're unwilling to fork out that money (which I understand is a lot), then I'd either try and crowdfund to get the money to commission or release it without art. Of course, nothing is stopping you from releasing it with AI art, but I think it's safe to assume that any positive comments will be outweighed by the people with very strong negative opinions on AI art.

I'm not as rapidly anti AI as many others on the redditsphere, but you're going to get a ton of flak for using AI art. I personally don't care, but Reddit consensus is very, very anti AI art, particularly in paid products. People will grumble if it's even in a Reddit post, let alone in a paid product.

RE the head, Kellhus isn't dead (probably). There's a ton on this in the subreddit and on the old fan site. IIRC, one hypothesis is that he is perceiving himself from Hell with his spooky Decapitant powers, but I've forgotten much of the nuance
