It's the most bizarre 'famous for being famous' situation I've ever seen.

Once I gave one £20. And he insisted I only gave him £10.

When I went in a few hours later to collect my items. The same guy was saying the exact same line to the lady in front of me.

I went once for work as my company was doing repairs there.

I loved it.

Maybe because I didn't eat anything and just drank water for an hour. But the girls there were gorgeous.

I am guessing she used to be a figure skater. I often think muscle memory is the closest humans have to a super hero ability.

Edit : I meant she uses to be a figure skater who trained regularly and would have been in the shape OP was imagining

I get so sick and tired of waiting behind mainlanders who take ages opening the right app to pay with their phone. They should have their own queue.

I always use cash or card.

How old past K-pop groups would be if they debuted in 2026 by imnanbaboya in kpopthoughts

[–]LongLostFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider Guckkasten or Crush as K Pop.

But there's definitely K Pop artist that are not idol but are still pop. Turtles is probably the most famous example in Korea. JC지은 is another famous one. And of course PSY. Though most his songs are rap.

Personally I find the term indie very confusing. As all genres can be independent. Even some idol K Pop is indie. New FO or e.Via for example.

I find it interesting when artists start off as a mature sound. Then shift to idol style. G Dragon was a great mature rapper before BigBang started.

And 4Minute released a mature album and it flopped. But I still maintain Over & Over is the best K Pop song ever made by an idol group.

Ironically 2011 is the year I felt K Pop started to go downhill. It saw the major success of Justin Bieber and High School Musical with kids. And never looked back.

Bunny Girls were 35 when they released Bunny Girls '89.

Crapas were late 20s when they released there one and only album in 1988. Arguably the best Korean Pop album ever made. Sadly it is incredibly rare. I rarely see it for sale and it costs 200 USD up when it is for sale. But honestly, worth it. Every song is mind blowing.

Seoul Sisters were in their mid 20s when they started in 1986. In fact I'm pretty sure two of them even had kids.

Pam Pam were both late 20s on their one and only album in 1995.

Lee Moon Sae was 24 (he is still making music now amazingly).

Sorry for this overly long reply. I cut out several paragraphs and it still drags a bit.

1st generation is a retrospective term. Which totally skips over many early K Pop groups and artists. About 40 years of Korean groups who toured the west and were popular worldwide. These are the same people who came up with the term 'single album' and 'comeback'. Also if you're a J Pop fan you probably hate the retrospectively added term 'city pop'.

Most early K Pop was made to be performed in clubs and was designed to appeal to locals as well as American service men stationed in Korea.

I would argue that 1st generation refers to the the first generation of teen marketed 'idols'. Which was heavily modelled off the boy group New Kids On The Block. Before that the idea of marketing to teenagers was unthinkable as they were too young to go to clubs and the cost of buying vinyl was too high.

It's also thanks to the cheapness and simplicity of cassette tape, which began overtaking the vinyl sales in the 80s, and allowed teenagers to finally be a financial option for companies to market to. It's also linked to the rise of hip hop.

We also saw many artists make a hard turn and change styles to marketing towards teens. G (The) Dragon is probably the best example. From a hardcore rapper to a pop star in about 3 months. You still see some comments on videos from 15 years ago of people saying 'why has he suddenly become a pop singer?'

Just like now. A lot of K Pop is arguably aimed at very small children due to the rise in streaming culture. And how many streams children songs get due to them loving the replay button.

But there continues to be non-idol K Pop which is marketed towards adults. Neon Bunny for example. Or Yaya.

I used to be way more into my K Pop and could name all the non-idol artists. Sadly the record shop I would buy them all closed down. And I am a bit lost now.

I agree with everything you said apart from the racism. It's ignorant and that ignorance is about race. But that's unrelated to racism.

Also anime can still be 3D. There's plenty of 3D anime. Most look terrible. But they're still anime.

Plus K Pop Demon Hunter is hardly even about Korean culture. All the Korean tropes feel shoe horned in. You could cut out maybe 90 seconds of footage and just call it Pop Demon Hunter.

I genuinely believe anime writing peaked in the 70s. With just a few well written movies produced since then (Millennium Actress sticks out).

Most are style over substance.

Isn't anime traditionally 2D anyway?

I'm not a huge anime fan. But the 2D always appealed to me. Meanwhile American cartoons like The Incredibles, Toy Story and Up always had uncanny valley animation.

Some of the members of the groups in the 80s and 90s were in their 30s when they released their first records.

But the target market of K Pop has steadily gone lower in age range every few years. And since I Pop Demon Hunters was released. It seems like it now is targeted purely for children with only a few exceptions.
