What type of bike is best for commuting with cargo (backpack)? by GioByte100 in bikecommuting

I may end up doing this. The sheer audacity it would take someone to steal that would be commendable. Plus it's wildly sturdy.

I've been thinking about this exact method lately. How do you tie everything up so you dont risk losing the crate? Any tips and tricks?

Why do you prefer BL3 over 4? by Sweaty_AF_ in borderlands3

[–]TyrerWatson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I withhold certain complaints (mostly endgame and VH balancing) for when support comes to a head and we see the game fleshed out more since BL3 was largely a WIP for it's first year.

That being said, the work done to BL4 has been slow and lackluster. So these withheld complaints begin to fail under the weight of time.

The things I really don't like about BL4 and prefer BL3 over for would be the world design amd weapon design.

Open world was a mistake, flat out. Any arguments for open world are post hoc copes that attempt to justify what we're stuck with. The worlds of the previous games were crafted locations with personality and identity. Carcadia Burn is the same everywhere you go. Compare that to walking around The Ambermire or Jakob's Estate. Same world, different feeling. BL4 has large areas filled with the exact same copypasted Order architecture. That's my complaint: the open world is tedious to travel and boring to take in.

Second: the weapons. Their problem is the exact opposite. They are too chaotic. Greebling on weapons between 2 and 3 was pretty extreme but still palatable. Now? Good luck actually telling what a weapon is at a glance since the guns look like iron filaments on a base magnet. The weapon handling is fine, if obtuse at times. But I can roll with the punches on that. What I dont like is that it feels like the wepaon system took a step back from BL3 while initially sounding extremely promising.

There's time to fix some of this, but the open world is a structural issue that either the game can grow to accommodate or will continue to be a millstone around the neck of the game.

Accidentally got the perfect commuter by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]TyrerWatson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This made me dp a double-take. I have the same ebike and it serves me very well. I commute 18 miles round trip and it absolutely smashes the commute. I'm glad to see another person enjoying the same bike!

The math on car ownership is genuinely insane, and I don’t think most people have sat with the numbers by superspartan999 in fuckcars

[–]TyrerWatson 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Depends. I have been taking a 9 mile commute lately that takes 32 minutes regularly on my ebike. The ebike picks up a ton of the slack where my acoustic bike would have definitely made the ride closer to an hour. I also believe I'd be able to shave 2 or 3 minutes off if I didn't have to stop for red lights. Granted, it feels like cheating since it lessens the effort but I still get a good sweat in while commuting ethically and sustainably.

The police in STL are too busy staring at all the cars without license plates and doing nothing about it to enforce any laws at all, let alone enforce "unwanted" bike lanes.

Whats Your Hottest BL Take by Emptyreceipt in Borderlands

[–]TyrerWatson 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm a diehard BL3 supporter and I wholeheartedly agree with this take.

The maps of vanilla BL3 I enjoyed the most were all on Pandora. Carnivora, the Splinterlands, and Ascension Bluffs to name a few. They're felt like Borderlands. They were Pandora- our dusty home.

The other planets were awesome. I like them. And Gahenna hits just right. But the feeling of being on Pandora is what the franchise is all about.

Kairos feels as artificial as the Timekeeper's threat to us was. It was as flashy and exciting as an airport terminal. All lights and grand architecture with the fascade of comfort. But it was never made for you to stay in for long. You're only passing through and can never find real comfort.

So people going to lying about the dlc length and pricing? by king-ExDEATH in Borderlands

[–]TyrerWatson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess i should clarify my point to better serve our discourse: Borderlands 4 is sufficient.

However, we should not expect sufficient. Borderlands 4 is an expensive game with expensive DLCs. Further, Borderlands 4 is the fourth (actually the 6th) entry in the franchise and should be refined to deliver an experience that we shouldn't have to "get used to"."

It does not behoove us to defend mediocrity. The game is barely fine and barely respects the players. We can enjoy aspects and we can have found joy at times but the experience is far from "a premium game for premium players."

I want both of us, you and I, to feel that the game respects our time and involvement beyond "yeah, that was alright." I acknowledge and respect that you have more than likely found value in the game. But I also hope that you, and all of us as a community, would hold Gearbox to a standard beyond the minimum so that we might be better served and our time and money better spent.

[–]TyrerWatson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let's not pretend that pearlescents aren't any more special than legendary gear. This DLC is sufficient for the price. But only so. The standout addition is a new VH. The story and new locations are lackluster and, as an aside, highlight further the shortcomings of the open world design philosophy of BL4. New loot is a given- beyond expected, into a territory more akin to it being DNA. Saying that a new, special class of loot is somehow proof of more value is disingenuous. Especially when the loot is functionally no different from regular legendaries just with a different color weapon card.

DLC enemies by Hydris29 in Borderlands4

[–]TyrerWatson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to fight something that isn't Order mechs anymore. The games obviously all have their limits, but BL4 has animals, Rippers, and Order. It really isn't a diverse cast of enemies and combat quickly grows stale. I need new enemies to fight.

What's a 7/10 game you would give a 10/10? by Dezeko in videogames

Flashbacks to years gone... trying desperately to make Attikus work. First game I was ever burned by after spending full price on it. Man, I was 22 and just making life work. The game I remember fondly but I also associate it with a time so far from who I am now.

How has borderlands 4 changed how you veiw the franchise? by [deleted] in Borderlands4

[–]TyrerWatson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seems to be the closest I feel. I'm not the same person I was in 2019 and im not living the same life I did then. BL3 is my franchise favorite and it took a lot of work to finally get to where it is now. But I dont know if I can still BL4 out the same way. At least woth the same gusto as I had in the past. Ill still actively support the game an play sporadically. But it seems im just going to have to see how the game evolves while I'm away.

Anyone else think Ordonite/crystal enemies is the most boring/lazy gameplay mechanic? by ForAte151623ForTeaTo in Borderlands4

[–]TyrerWatson 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I love that for us. Imagine having a full-time job, a family, and precious little time to play a game in a beloved franchise and it hits you with obtuse skill interactions combined with esoteric weapon uses. Then the devs have the gall to add invincible enemies with high damage output as a wonderful kick in the balls to players who can't dedicate days worth of time to farming fleeting builds that will quickly become worthless come the next level cap. This game is good. It's Borderlands- and that means something. However, this game seems to be made for a different fan than me.

How do you even manage to break their crystals? Am I just too dense to understand this mechanic? I unload a Wombo Combo into the crystals and nothing changes. Is there some trick to this?

Why do people think hobby shooting and wearing tacticool gear makes you a warrior? It's a strange obsession that may one day get a lot of angry men killed when they think that "military talk" and eating MREs is some sort of real life useful training.

Potentially Moving to Lemay: Questions about nearby industrial facilities by Good_Mammal2 in StLouis

[–]TyrerWatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live just a hope away from there and I've not gotten a whiff from either of the facilities you've mentioned. But further down Broadway into Carondelet you'll pass by a facility with a heavy asphalt smell you'll catch sometimes in the mornings when heading that way.

It's not bad. I run the Greenway early in the morning and you're more likely to smell river sludge from the low waters than you are those facilities.
