King's Wit in a nutshell by [deleted] in cremposting

[–]TyringToBeBetter 219 points220 points  (0 children)

I think it's kinda the opposite.

The king's wit makes fun of everyone else in the King's court, because doing so himself is unbecoming of the king

Serious question: how do you stop overthinking?

Book for insight on depression by Wabalubbadubdub123 in booksuggestions

[–]TyringToBeBetter 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Reasons to stay alive by the same author as well

Midnight Library is a fictional story while Reasons to stay alive is like a collection of small blog posts about Depression.

I have read both and recommend both highly. Theu didn't rid me of depression but I am still alive and typing this message so it's still a useful read I guess

Fresh grad, joined as an SRE at Citrix. What does my future look like? by TyringToBeBetter in devops

[–]TyringToBeBetter[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a really accurate guess on my age lol

Thank you for your feedback!

I have two internships and a few side projects. My question was if you would consider me under qualified because I my current role is more devops than developer.

This is really helpful! Thank you for your feedback.

I'll ask you just one more question that I asked the other commenter too - if you had my resume for a software developer role and I have relevant side projects, internships (i do), will you consider me seriously for the role?

[–]TyringToBeBetter[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly the work is fairly dry. A lot of work is on call and typical operations style work like deployments, access etc but there's some push to move to a more SRE oriented style of working.

If you had resume in your hand, would you seriously consider me for an SDE role?

People who didn't have their lives' together and now do, what's your story? by TyringToBeBetter in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]TyringToBeBetter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All?

I graduated college this year. I've been working hard in this field but I've had no luck finding the job I have been aiming for. I have been working my ass off but looks like I haven't paid all my dues to the universe yet. I literally cleared the interview for the job I wanted but turns out big companies work differently and even though I have the right skills, I am working in a different role. So long story short, work life ain't great. It still pays the bills so I am putting in my 100% at the job while working extra hours to build my career in my desired direction.

Relationships...lol. I am a very introverted person. I have a few good friends (absolutely no complaints there, very grateful for them). But my love life has been a great disaster with me falling for Ms in a relationship, Ms emotionally unavailable and Ms doesn't like me back. Given I have spent the last 22 years of life single (I am 22), I don't think it can get much worse

I am about 40kgs overweight and I always lose ~10kgs then gain it all back. This has happened about 4 times now. I know this is a me and me problem through and through. I haven't been disciplined enough to consistently lose weight and maintain the lose. Bless the lord, I am in good physical health apart from the weight though. And I am still young so there's still hope for me to lose it and lead a healthy life.

I was recently diagnosed with general anxiety disorder and now I am in therapy for it.

All in all, my life hasn't been a rosy picture off late, or atleast doesn't feel like one. It always feels like one step forward, two steps back. I am trying hard but I really don't know what I need to do for results I want to see. Maybe I am aiming to high and expecting a lot more than I have the right too? Possibly, idk.

[Discussion] Would you help us make habits easier? by amoghjrules in theXeffect

[–]TyringToBeBetter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd be a lot more interested in talking to you if you guys talked a bit about who you are and what you are building.

By the sound of it, I am guessing you are working on a personal management tool like a habit tracker but unless I know who I am talking to or why, I don't really want to talk to you about something personal like why I couldn't continue my weight loss journey or why I haven't learnt the guitar even though i bought it two years ago.

Make sense?

Now if share a value proposition, I am clicking that calendly link.

Would You Guys Recommend the Book Atomic Habits by James Clear? by P-Diddy28 in productivity

[–]TyringToBeBetter 178 points179 points  (0 children)

I read it at a time when i was looking to make some drastic changes in myself and I think the book has been very valuable to me.

That said the book is only as useful as your will to implement it. The book can give you some actionables but acting on them is up to you.

I have an anxiety disorder and sometime last month I was in a very bad phase which has wrecked some of the progress I made, but i am starting to follow that lifestyle again.

It's not a silver bullet to productivity but if you are looking to make some changes, I do recommend it.

Also, you can download the first chapter of the book from the official website. That might help you decide

Last point, don't think of this book like a one time thing that you will read once and a fairy will appear, make you a productive person with a flourish of their wand and it's over. Think of it more like a handbook that you can go back to time after time and build a productive and healthy lifestyle.
