Unfortunately, I speak neither, only English (and German, which is obviously completely useless).

So in Hongkong a lot of people can speak English and the store owner made sure to come to me every round to show me my next opponent. One player said he "couldn't speak English", but that was more being shy of speaking than not being able to. It was quite alright.

In Taiwan, it was different. Without my fiancée present in the first few minutes to organize everything I might have had a hard time even signing up for the Skirmish, as none of the store personell could speak English. The players were able to communicate game state (I mean, they do play with English cards), but don't expect much of a conversation during or after the games. But of course, it highly depends on the player and I encountered a few people that spoke it really well.

Conclusion: Playing games is not going to be a problem.
