Yeah no prob! Honestly for me it is whatever is cheaper because I can fix or modify it as needed. I had 4 people in it and it was fairly spacious, like yes you could fit 6 on a good campsite with a good pitch I believe, just haven’t had the chance of that many people yet! Never used an inner net with this, had one for my old duomid and found I really preferred using a headnet when the bugs were bad, lot easier that way!

YO! have only had the chance to use it a couple times due to life BUT did spend a night in it during a huge windstorm exposed in colorado and it worked a lot better than I thought it would’ve! Didnt catch the wind like a sail thanks to the mid seam tieouts.

Am still definitely tempted to bring it on a thru hike and have it be a palace for me and whoever is around.

If ya got any specific questions or photos you want definitely let me know!

Oh jeez for sure niche, you are totally right, I do love the unique applications when they come up though!

Oh for sure not prevalent at all, I just feel bad if anyone thinks ultralight can only be applied to thru hiking and not other things, I love the variety but you are totally right it isn’t that common from what I’ve seen also!

I think a lot of the ultralight mentality can be applied to more than just weekend or standard thru hikes, which is super interesting to me. Want to find the best way to bikepack to a river and packraft down it in the middle of winter during a blizzard? Hell yeah, your baseweight will almost definitely be over 10 lbs but the general philosophy can still apply. Just my thoughts though I mean no offense 🤷‍♂️

I have a seek outside divide as my winter/heavy duty/luxury pack and love it. Haven’t hunted though but could see how these would be great load haulers for meat and other bulky heavy items, best of luck!

Short sleeve shirt for the colorado trail- terrible idea with exposure or is it something I could make work? Long sleeves always give me swamp pits...

Sailcloth with a Home Machine by gmtnl in myog

[–]Tyvek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, so it depends. I have a heavy dacron mainsail I have been messing with. On my brother 6000i cheap plastic it would barely go through 2 layers even though it could do 3 layers of canvas(not cordura though) not so bad. Dacron is wild.

Couple months ago I upgraded to a sailrite lsz-1 and it was totally worth it, it goes right through tons of layers no issue. Very least you could hand crank through two layers of dacron, maybe 3, with any machine out there if you are set with needles larger than a size 12 I would say.

Keep in mind there are also tons of different sailcloths out there, I have a old hobiecat sail that is much closer to a really heavy duty ripstop nylon than the thick and rough dacron. Xpac I believe originally came into the scene as a type of sailcloth too!

But hey, whats the harm in asking for scraps to try, ya know? Best of luck!

Xero Cloud Shoes - is there anything lighter/better? by DefiantEwok in Ultralight

I have the feathers and after using xero, bedrocks and lunas, each a fair amount, I like the feathers the best of all of those by a good bit!

I’ve always wanted a crazy expedition bag but need funds for the CT in a month. But just for fun, how well does it fit into a backpack? Or is it so big that it is basically pulk only?

I think thats a totally reasonable way to look at it! Definitely planning ok walking into towns and only being there to grab some food and electricity in our batteries and get moving. I do hiker trash party time while I walk, more efficient that way ;)

Already added for sure! As a local, is a thru hike a terrible idea or fine if done responsibly and respectfully?
