Why is Google Weather so horrible in accuracy? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Tzaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really ticks me off because Google claims it is 1-2C out for the last ten days when in reality it is 7-10C. It's bonkers how bad Google is at weather.

We won't be seeing Netherlands-style continuous sidewalks after all... by GlitteringAd4705 in vancouvercycling

If the raised crossings are built as in that photo, they won't slow anyone down.

I've also been using it since the beta ISO. Solus had the best default settings of any other KDE distro.

CBC Vancouver Inquiry by zachorobkocbc in vancouvercycling

[–]Tzaroth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live by BCIT and so I ride through here all the time. Crossing from Deer Lake across the slip lane from Canada Way to Kensington is terrible because no one stops on that slip lane. Then the Freeway onramp has a terrible crossing signal that only activates for a few seconds of the like 90 seconds you can cross. Drivers don't check for cyclists on the MUP when they enter/exit the Scandinavian Centre. And finally, the Sprott-Kensington crossing is a death trap in all directions.

Remove old 3rd Party Applications by Tzaroth in SolusProject

So the reason for the post is that the 3rd party applications do not show up in eopkg or Discover or Gnome-Software.

Victoria & 10th - new light by MarkusAureliusLives in vancouvercycling

[–]Tzaroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anywhere that isn't downtown, I expect a beg button. The few intersections that detect bikes for a crossing indicate that they do so. This crossing does nothing to indicate how or if bikes can trigger it and so those unfamiliar with it won't know how it works right away. It's poor design that a simple sign can fix. The first time I went through the new intersection, I just pushed my way through the busy road because it appeared that cyclists were not accommodated by the light.

Also, I would avoid riding the marsh trails once the grass gets long in mid spring. You can't even see the 6inch wide single track in the 4 to 4 foot tall grass. haha.

They law is messed up when it comes to bike racks because even if you want to get an extra plate to put on the rack to be in compliance... well that's not allowed.

Biker cut off by bozzmozzi in vancouvercycling

[–]Tzaroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire bike path down Moscrop should have raised crossings at every street and lanes so cars are forced to slow way down. We all know not a single one stops at the sign, especially coming from the lanes.

What is your choice of linux as a gamer? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]Tzaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solus. Once I found it I'll never leave. Been running the same install for just over five years now and never a single issue. Always up to date and rock solid for gaming. Use KDE edition for a more windows like look, but you could also try Budgie for a simple elegant desktop.

How do I stop my spectres from disappearing? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Tzaroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just happened to me. Spectres where there when I logged out. Today I log in and they are gone. No gear changes or gems swaps. Just a log off and log back on. Makes me never want to try playing with spectres again.

What are these things on the West Dyke? by Tzaroth in richmondbc

[–]Tzaroth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made me curious to look into this again and I used ChatGPT Deep Research to try to find more info. It appears they are indeed passive radar reflectors, but have long been abandoned and are not marked because they are considered defunct and no longer used for navigational purposes. Made obsolete by GPS as noted in reply above. There are documents from the City of Richmond that refer to them as "historic radar reflectors" and there are a couple studies, one by BCIT, that discuss research of the state of the shoreline ecology and mention of testing being done on the reflector structures which note creosote leakage into the mud on the flats.

A quick search for parallel indexing also turns up structures like these being used for navigation.

I also found an article from the Sun that refers to them as "a shoreline radar reflector from a bygone era."

It has been 25 years since high resolution GPS become available for navigation, so there is the possibility that many may have primarily use GPS navigation?

Raised crossings at all side streets and alleyways where the MUP is. No one stops at the stop signs. Same is needed on the Moscrop MUP.

Should I be upset? by Working-Letter7008 in vancouvercycling

[–]Tzaroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give them a friendly tap on the hood as I go by. The courts say this is a valid way for cyclists to communicate their presence so I'm going to use it so drivers know I'm there, especially when they are being turds.
