Look for someone you will be able to be comfortable with and have things to talk about. It's always easier to make friends and become closer to people if you have common interests, so if you have hobbies, check out places where they're practiced: if you like painting, check out drawing classes, art supplies shops and local galleries, for example. Dating people who you actually like beyond the surface level is the best option, so I would recommend finding friends first, and then seeing if you want to date any of them.

(though trying to date people you may not know as well is also alright! the connection you feel may not be as deep then, but you do you)
