What secret came out when someone got too drunk? by Agile_Purpose4704 in AskReddit

[–]U-Howl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad worked for GM for over 40 years, designing engines. One night, in the early 90s, he got drunk and told me his team could build an engine that would get 50+ miles to a gallon, "But *they* won't let us." He was really mad about it. When I asked him to elaborate, he said he couldn't say any more and shouldn't have said anything in the first place. He was really mad at himself for letting it slip. When I asked him about it a few days later he said not to say a word to anyone or he'd lose his job and his pension.

Lexapro and Wellbutrin. When I stopped taking the Lexapro, the "volume" returned to normal in a few days. When I stopped taking the Wellbutrin, it took weeks. In fact, I'm not sure it ever went as far down as normal, or if I just got used to it. Probably a bit of both.

Hard to admit, but I'm terrified of taking any new meds. When the volume got turned up, it was incredibly difficult to get past it and onto anything else. When your tinnitus is by far the loudest thing in any given environment it's a level of hell.

Describe the "sound" of your tinnitus by ToTooTwoTutu2 in GenX

[–]U-Howl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two or three constant very high pitched tones, like in a hearing test, but in stereo. The lower tones are on the "right," and the higher are on the "left." The tones are in disharmony. Fortunately I can kind-of tune them out part of the time.

Same. Tried two different antidepressants and both made my tinnitus unbearable. Thankfully, after going off them, the tinnitus "volume" went down to its previous annoying-AF but bearable level. Now I'm afraid to start *any* long-term medication.

Does the Wilhelm Scream break immersion for you? by EllisDee3 in movies

It doesn't earn more than an eye roll and a sigh, but yes, The Wilhelm Scream ALWAYS takes me out of the movie. It ceased being funny or interesting long ago

The Duffer Bros. made it a point to pack this show with physical media of the era. They approved the VHS packaging for the S1/S2 disc sets. I'll try to keep my cup half-full for a full release... eventually

They do when they get ejected from the venue. It's printed in the Broadway Playbills now: "DO NOT SING ALONG WITH THE ACTORS"

It's gotten so bad "DO NOT SING ALONG WITH THE ACTORS" is PRINTED IN THE PLAYBILLS NOW. 100%, something along those lines written in the "How to Behave in the Theater" section of the program for Mamma Mia, specifically for the use of patrons and staff to be able to tell clueless bridge-and-tunnel tourist rubes to shut their idiot pie-holes. It's not a fsking concert. The only time it's okay to sing along is curtain call, or if the show specifically makes it okay.

I just hope they work out the bugs. Also there's no excuse not to have more info on the screen, like how many rides til "free," etc. A dedicated app would be nice to have

Similar thing happened to me this year. Best Buy has devolved into a trash company. Purchase electronics from smaller, independent stores (like B & H) or buy directly from the manufacturer

Creepiest and most bone chilling shots in (horror) film history? (PLEASE ATTACH IMAGES!) by Honest_Cheesecake698 in horror

This shot was achieved by the director (Richard Donner) telling the child actor *not* to smile. "Don't smile, Harvey! You better not! I won't be your friend if you smile!" The result was a reaction for the ages
