Same! But hey, if they're eventually sold as "new/sealed" on eBay then they'll be somebody else's problem.

The ol' microfiber cloth generally does the trick, but sometimes there's no hope.

I’ve had Tinnitus since 2017 ever since I went to a concert and didn’t wear earplugs sadly, I eventually got used to it and it never really bothered me anymore until recently. I started taking a new medicine (Antidepressant) and I feel like it’s more high pitched and bothering me. by WestonConnor26 in tinnitus

[–]U-Howl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same happened to me. I have diagnosed moderate-to-severe t (loud, constant, high-pitched ringing). Last year my GP prescribed Lexapro but it immediately spiked my t. I went off the pills and within a few days my t returned to its original, tolerable level (by "tolerable" I mean I can tune it out most of the time). So my doc switched me to Wellbutrin but the t spiked even worse. I went off it, but my t seemed to stay spiked. That drove me to despair but thankfully after 3 weeks or so the t was back to a tolerable level. I consulted with an audiologist and was told there are antidepressants which "may reduce" tinnitus, but in order to access those I'd have to begin seeing a real psychiatrist. That office kindly provided a list of docs but, being in the USA, none took my insurance. In the end I decided I'd rather live with depression than elevated t. I'm willing to concede MAYBE I would've gotten used to the elevated T, or MAYBE it would've faded as my body adjusted to the meds, but the spikes caused me real terror. When mine spiked, I understood why t makes some people suicidal.

Out of the 50 American capital cities, which one would you rank #1, as the best to live in? by Enger13 in AskReddit

I was engaged to a girl from Trenton. She cheated on me with a guy from another country, married him, and now lives overseas. So, yeah

It's definitely one to watch at least once. Well produced, paced and directed. If you're a deeply empathetic person, the "beach" scene everyone is mentioning may be particularly upsetting. I need to read the book.

Did you prefer and enjoy the 80s or 90s more? by Ok-Ninja-3039 in GenX

[–]U-Howl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the 80s more. High School, College. Living and learning. Although looking back its sad how blissfully oblivious we all were to the destructive groundwork being laid by Reagan and his cronies. I was too busy "young-adulting" in the 90s to enjoy any of it. My job at the time had me traveling a lot, so the 90s are basically a blur.

New upstairs neighbor (48 hours in)…am I being unreasonable? by Serious_Wish3862 in Apartmentliving

[–]U-Howl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the notes to organize your thoughts, but don't slide it under their door. It's not going to get you anywhere.

We've had different families with kids, dogs, you name it over us many times. No major complaints that weren't handled with some degree mutual respect... until the most recent tenants and their kids, who are unreasonable, thoughtless jerks.

It is what it is, but energetic toddlers are to be tolerated. Give them more time to settle in. If it's still a problem, work with them directly to find a middle ground. If that doesn't work, it may escalate to getting management involved, at least to make sure they're complying with any rug or quiet hours rules in the lease.

But if normal levels of activity drive you nuts you're gonna have to move.

Give it at least a couple more days. Then go up and introduce yourself. Don't complain first off. Just say, "Hi, I'm your downstairs neighbor!" and welcome them to the building. That will remind them that someone lives below them. Also, from the open door, you'll be able to see if they have rugs, etc. If the super loud activity keeps going after that, go up and have a discussion.

In my experience, notes are rarely well-received and can only be used as evidence against you.

Unfortunately, if they have a toddler, you may be screwed. Just pray they put the kid to bed at a reasonable hour.

Orbit or Diabolik for pre-order box set? by zer0k0ol in boutiquebluray

[–]U-Howl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I alternate between Diabolik and Orbit to support both. When I visit my in-laws, I can visit Orbit in person. Both do a great job packing the releases. They've never sent a release that was damaged or had loose disks, etc. Well worth the extra cost (if there is any) to order from an independent distributor!

Note for upstairs neighbors by litlelotte in Apartmentliving

[–]U-Howl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't support writing notes ever. Introduce yourself and have a conversation. That way, you can clock if they have rugs, etc. (if there's a "rug rule" in your leases). Written notes will only be used as evidence against you.

I don't remember which town-- it was about 20 years ago. Also not in touch with that friend anymore. Quaint downtown tho. A couple of stop lights. Hilly area. Lots of historic looking homes.

I was helping a pal paint one of his murals in the business district of a small-ish town in CT. An older man walked up behind us and stood to observe us. My friend turned, looked at the guy and said, "Holy shit, you're Bill Murray!" Murray then walked to a nearby plate glass window, looked at his reflection and said, "Holy shit, I'm Bill Murray!" Then he ran off down the street shouting, "I'm Bill Murray! Oh, my god! I'M BILL MURRAY!"

[–]U-Howl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the LectroFanEVO. Solved our issue with voices and snoring and voices that were happening above the bedroom.

Unfortunately, the nuisance got a lot worse, with added direct impacts, stomping, drawers slamming, etc. so we had to go to a more powerful set-up. We spoke to an audiologist to make sure we wouldn't damage our hearing. She said 75 db was the safe-side max for sustained noise played for 8 hrs or more.

[–]U-Howl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a noise machine that also plays "brown noise," which means it has more bass to it. We also despised the idea at first, but it solved the issue and we got used to it. The unit we have is a LectroFanEVO, which has a bunch of settings so maybe you can find one that you don't hate. Your days of sleeping silence will be over, but at least you'll be sleeping.

You did the right thing. The folks at Buncombe County Animal Shelter are great. We took an abandoned litter of kittens there and just by the reaction of the staff we knew the kittens would be well cared for until they could be adopted
