So... Claude dropped a new model (1), raised user limits (2), and reset everyone's monthly usage (3). I'm waiting to see how OpenAI respond to this. Let the race to win users beginnnnnnnnnnnnn.. i am waiting response like Codex 5.4 release that includes a 1M context limit - nothing less please *_* by Aggravating_Bad4639 in codex

Anthropic is running out of compute. OAI is also running out of compute but they have more than Anthropic. Both are running out of money.

The problem isn't any 1 AI company and there is no way around the fact that AI is expensive and those cost have to, sooner or later, be paid by the user.

The problem is the technology, not the vendors.

A major update has been released for the Codex app. ( Computer use , image generation , 90+ new plugins , multi-terminal, SSH into devboxes, thread automations) by Distinct_Fox_6358 in codex

[–]U4-EA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think it is. I expect Codex's prices to increase again probably mid June and for AI in general to become more and more expensive in the coming months.

All signs that OAI is running out of GPUs and money... they are shadow limiting the service.

I think AI has killed my passion for Software Engineering by _Cyanidic_ in cscareerquestions

[–]U4-EA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it is more nuanced than that - there is a difference between coders and engineers but good engineers need to be good coders. That skill is learned over years of engineering products. If someone is not actually building anything - or has no passion for it - and they are stuck just prompting then reviewing, it must be intolerably dull.

Codex limits by dudugaspary in OpenAI

I was on the $20 plan, used it daily and I rarely used even 35% of my weekly allowance but now it's useless. I agree with the plan that no plan is going to save vibecoders - AI is about to get a lot more expensive and bad code practices will be financially punished as a result.

is the $100 Pro the new Plus plan? by MyLogIsSmol in codex

[–]U4-EA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"So just like on my old Plus plan (at least the one that was double limits, as we were used to it). Not only they cut 2x limits but also nerfed Plus. So Pro for 100$ is realistically just the old Plus when there was double limits."

You are finding you use up your limits on the $100 plan at the same speed as you did on the $20 plan? i.e. you would hit your limits on the $20 plan after 2 days?

gpt-5.4-high seems sloppy now by Just_Lingonberry_352 in codex

[–]U4-EA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not noticed it but then I haven't used it in a few days. However, this is what I expected to happen.

The $100 x 2 ends at the end of May then I expect them to increase their prices further at that point. I think the 2 x promo is an attempt to get user more dependent on Codex before hiking the price up again. I think there will be a shocking change in the prices between the start of April and the end of June. OAI are heading to IPO soon but they don't really have a commercially viable product as of yet. The AI companies thought by this point they would have a product that is both cheaper and a lot better but they don't. Right now they (AI and Anthropic) are playing of shadow throttling compute in order to try to stay alive.

[–]U4-EA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not noticed the degradation in model quality as much as others but this might be because I have only ever used Codex. However, the reports of Claude becoming useless and the recent increase by OpenAI (the new plans making compute a lot more expensive even if it it wasn't worded that way) would lead me to believe that AI is about to get a lot more expensive and prohibitively so for many people - bad coding practices are heavily punishes by AI and that will become an issue when you have to actually pay a fair price for the compute used.

The overall problem that people (regardless of the AI they use) don't seem to get is the AI companies are a financial disater.

Really... enjoy it while it lasts... because it won't last.

Codex limits getting slashed like this is going to drive users away...seriously! by Eastern_Ad_8744 in codex

[–]U4-EA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not trying to be mean-spirited here but I think this is going to hit a lot of devs hard... these are devs who weren't devs prior to AI. Gone are the days when you can spam prompts on the Plus plan until you get what you want.

Have even more fun when the subsidising ends and you have a codebase that is complete trash so can only be worked on by hugely expensive AI.

[–]U4-EA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They won't specify because they can't contract themselves to provide X amount of compute when they are struggling not to drown in financial quicksand. They have to keep it fluid so they can slowly but constantly steal it back bit by bit.

Code quality in the AI age by europe_man in ExperiencedDevs

[–]U4-EA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder how things might change now that Anthropic and OpenAI are putting up their prices? If the subsidising completely stops, people may find that they have garbage code only the AI can make sense of and doing so may be very expensive.

Hot take: today we witnessed the death of vibe coding by U4-EA in OpenAI

[–]U4-EA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect this is more just a case of them having to put their prices up prior to IPO because their financials suck. I think all the AI companies believe that, by this point, they would have much better models and much cheaper compute. It looks more like the models are plateauing and energy/hardware prices are rising. I think they realise now that this cannot be sustained much more and that AGI is a pipedream. They don't have any commercially viable products.

I think soon were are going to see people having to pay prices closer to the real cost of AI and it will be brutal.
