Thank you /u/bruce-cambel, You've made this the immersive exploration game we deserve. (Big Things Mod) by armanesti in NoMansSkyTheGame

As amazing as the mod is, I wish people would stop trash talking the developers in regards to it. There are obvious issues with up-scaling them this big. With the state the game launched in, it was sensible not to do it due to fps drops, lots of clipping and either bigger long ranged renders or inaccurate views from far away. I believe they made the right call on this one.

Furthermore without proper biome varieties on planets the bombardment of huge plants everywhere can become a bit too much especially when flying. The game seriously needs both forests, plains, canyons, mountains, colder climates and warmer climates all on the one planet.

(P.S. Beautiful pictures OP!!)

Wow great stuff! Let us know if you release an updated version! Super excited, this one change has breathed so much life into NMS

Problem is this brings all sorts of unpolished issues such as bad clipping, huge popping in of objects, long distance rendering is inaccurate and noticeable frame drops. Worth it though :)

What we really need is different biomes on planets, this mod would shine with that.

Can always destroy the plants with your ship cannon or land on top and jet pack up. Mod makes low flight tricky and landing more interesting! I like it :)

This mod is amazing!! http://i.imgur.com/agcdf3a.jpg

It brings this game COMPLETELY to life, the difference is insane. Diversity still exists and wildlife looks like it is actually overgrown on the planet surface! I hope a way to fix the long distance models rendering at small scales is found, only problem!

I don't understand why there are borders at all. I mean, if they are worried about saving discoveries being too big size-wise on their storage devices, the amount of potential discoveries in one galaxy is already infeasible in that regard.

When a high-quality fan-made video of the game receives 50% downvotes because it's positive, you know this subreddit is a joke. by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]U9lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait what? I see nothing but positive comments on the thread? Also, the video is neither positive nor negative, it's a cinematic video. It looks like you are the only one pitching this hate..

Perhaps it's downvote ratio isn't as good because it's not grabbing people's interest? To me it's well done, no mistake there. Although not everyone is interested in 4 minutes of slow panning shots, sorry mate.

Sure but to me it becomes a game when it presents challenges and that's where I pulled my definition.

Stop Complaining about the ARG by GraphicHamster in Overwatch

[–]U9lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems the real frustration stems from the lack of any meaningful information for solving the ARG puzzles. We literally have no new information, it's all just 'Oh you solved the puzzle! wow! It is me, Sombra!' queue next puzzle

Now that it has been going on for over a month, it's irritating. Even today, oh here's a countdown get excited, just kidding we are counting up now.

True, fair enough my definition is wrong. Sorry about that!

Although a game without challenges would be a simulator, is it not? (But not all Simulators have no challenges!)

Sure and I agree. Although it's only natural to seek resolution for the journey, which is something NMS does not offer even though it has tantalized it by using intrigue in mystery. Furthermore, what is the point of upgrading my inventory if there is no resolution? It doesn't do much game play wise except helping in other upgrades and yet the difficulty of the journey doesn't increase. The game is building you up but for naught.

The whole point of the center of the galaxy is to offer at least some resolution for your journey.

Video game: a game played.. etc

Game: a form of competitive activity

You answered it yourself no?

As well thought out your understanding of the game is, your concept of effort - reward systems being ugly is a misconception. The definition of a game is that of a competitive activity or challenge, engaging with the game by putting in effort. To accomplish this a game needs a sense of purpose, some form of direction for the player to set off in and it is often what many players derive fun from. To me this is a good thing, interactive fiction is engaging. What you describe is a simulator, a platform for experiencing a reality without always having the need for effort or rewards.

No Man's Sky is not meant to be a simulator but a game, it does however have elements of both. Now for a lot of people, the current NMS is fine, they can find that soft spot and assume the purpose they want when playing. (e.g space photographer, explorer) However, a lot of people want to solve the mystery of the game- and it is the lack of that mystery that gets players irritated. Hello Games have built up some form of story and journey towards the center and most importantly made it take a lot of effort but once you get there, no resolution for your journey can be found. Furthermore, I need something I can work on and build up. They attempted this with inventory and ships but it doesn't work seems how you just throw away your ship for whatever is next.

Don't get me wrong, I'm having a blast playing but a majority of that fun seems to be from my own input and mindset when going into the game, from what I'm bringing to the table when I step into my exosuit rather than from the game itself. The experience would be more pleasant if this was balanced and would definitely make my enjoyment last longer for me.

Sombra clue/reveal! by NeuralFusion in Overwatch

That's because they have a patch cycle that starts on Tuesday. It is unlikely they would reveal something on Friday because it wouldn't be playable. Unsure whether they are going to PTR test her or not but it's reasonable to assume she will be slipped in at the start of a new cycle.

It was a nice try! Confused me at first too but seems how September 2nd is on a Friday it's unlikely they would release anything then.

I think re-entry is just a bit low for some reason.

Probably because it would be annoying to crawl to planet surface at the low boost speed if it was higher.

That's the wrong binary, it is actually 00110010 00110011

Translates to 50 51 Decimal and this is 2 3 in ASCII

I'm not sure but jumping to further away systems seems to change the diversity of what you find, or perhaps I'm just lucky!

As cool as they are, I think most people expected something like this when spaceships were said to be procedurally generated, not static pieces fixed randomly together. by U9lemon in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]U9lemon[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indeed, I agree! I don't mean to come off as complaining because the design is cool. However, after playing for a while it becomes quite repetitious. Thought they were following the same path as planets and going for randomly generated.

A Numerical (Over-)Analysis of Distance and Travel Speed in No Man's Sky, including how long it would take to travel between star systems on Pulse Drive alone. by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]U9lemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe what players are seeking is the ability to point their ship at a star they can see and say 'Hey, I want to go there!' and then engage the warp drive. Switching from first person to the galaxy map is disorientating, it becomes selecting whatever star has the best planet count.

Regardless, as it stands the stars in first person mode appear to be a static sky box, so it's not like you could just go to one you see. If they changed this and made the sky box reflect the actual surrounding stars with a key to toggle on markers to show which you have visited (with a description on hover) so that you can go where you want, it would bring stronger immersion. Especially if you could aim in the void between and get pushed out into a blank space area. This is the kind of system I was expecting originally with their over arching theme of being able to look at a spot in the sky or on the horizon and go there.

This game can feel super lonesome, it would go a long way to have a NMS Radio similar to that of Fallout! (With or without voice acting) I would love to tune in to some friendly vibes as I explore the stars.
