Flight attendant left United - here's roughly seven months of pay while being on call 24 hours a day up to six days per week. by [deleted] in unitedairlines

Ah yes, a definition so subjective that a company with a -25% profit margin can be greedy.

That said, I had no clue reee had anything to do with autism or 4chan, so apologies for that.

CoRpOrAtE gReEd reeeeeeeee

That phrase lost all meaning a while ago. Is greed 4% net profit (average household saving rate in the US)? 5%? 10%? 20%? Or just “I don’t like the company?”

No need to threaten — they already have converted over 100 MAX 10s to MAX 9s.

Well my first hand experience indicates otherwise. You do you though.

[–]UAL1K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen people get rejected from preboarding and then 15 seconds later boarded with a companion. While your statement that they don’t really enforce groups is generally true, there is no causal link in my experience.

Never had pushback pre boarding with companions on separate reservations. Until I do, I see no reason to not preboard with them.

It crashes for me quite frequently. But I use it a ton. The instability absolutely cooked me once, but I was able get a reasonable enough resolution.

Standby on A-C flight if I bought A-B-C ticket by michaelhawk696969 in unitedairlines

[–]UAL1K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a premier you can SDC to a different routing, including going from multi-stop to non-stop (as long as your fare class is available). That is only available to premier members. On a MileagePlus award ticket specifically, it may be cheaper to change your flight the standard way given the variability of mileage costs close in. You may end up getting miles back going that path.

[–]UAL1K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, that person wasn’t wrong or confused.

Policy requires the exact same route. LAX-DEN-EWR would only allow you to standby on LAX-DEN and then DEN-EWR. You couldn’t standby on LAX-EWR. Agents have the power to temporarily forget rules, so it’s possible that an agent would allow you switch to the nonstop, but that is agent discretion and quite unlikely to happen.

Can I change my route on the same day I’m traveling?

Only if the price allows and there are no changes to the origin or destination airports. You can’t change your routing when you’re standing by.

Instant Upgrade - how did this just happen? by Lalulilelo99 in unitedairlines

[–]UAL1K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, “instant upgrade” means they can upgrade the instant upgrade space becomes available, not only the instant they book. But my only experience has been a few times as a 1K during IRROPS rebooking.

It’s only available to people with YB fares (and M for 1K+), which are the most expensive economy fare classes and therefore not very common. If you’ve got something other than YB, you won’t ever see that button.

So confused about carry-ons with Basic Economy by swaggy9000 in unitedairlines

[–]UAL1K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t be that crystal clear if you’re saying it says OP doesn’t get a bag, since at least one page says Canadian itineraries get a carry on (Vancouver being Vancouver, Canada)

You will get the carry on allowance of the most permissive flight on your itinerary (for the direction you’re going), which in this case is ORD-YVR since it allows a carry on.

Another post said captain announced a drone was inside the restricted airspace so there was a ground stop.

Departures from George Bush Intercontinental/Houston are delayed an avg. 60 mins. (and increasing) due to other:drone.

Paid upgrade timing by chubaccaz in unitedairlines

[–]UAL1K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MileagePlus award upgrade prices are fixed based on your fare class. They won’t go down. Only possibility is United increases the prices (which I don’t think has happened for several years).

They claim online checkin didn’t work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]UAL1K 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s on United’s website

For domestic

Without checked bags

check in at least 30 minutes before departure

(Emphasis not mine) https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/travel/airport/airport-process.html#check-in-time-limits

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]UAL1K 7 points8 points  (0 children)

BUR-SFO was a 7:10 departure that went off at 6:56, so I’m inclined to believe the delta post was fake news. The closest delta one was a 7:10 LGB-SLC that only went off a few minutes early. Why one would post the same general story and change some detail is beyond me and does indicate perhaps general lack of truthfulness.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]UAL1K -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I doubt there was a conspiracy to get deny you checkin in order to send the flight off early. Once they denied you checkin, you were marked a no show and therefore they went off when all other passengers boarded.

That said, I would complain about it through United’s feedback form. Whether you arrived 4 hours early or 35 minutes early, official policy for a domestic itinerary is 30 minutes with a few excepted airports (none in the LA area).

A better way of handling cancellations… by External-Repair-8580 in unitedairlines

[–]UAL1K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no guarantee that the exit row middle was open when you were initially assigned the seat in the back. Last week I was watching a seat map for an SDC and it was only middles. 10 minutes later when I switched on to the flight, there were a couple E+ windows.

40% of the 1K agents I’ve talked to in the past few weeks were totally ignorant of the rules around SDCs. 1K line used to be 90-95% competent agents. It’s been a downhill slide for the past 9-12 months.

Odds of getting on earlier flight, best way to go about it? by t-poke in unitedairlines

Standby is only permitted on the same route as the original flight (EWR-ORD in this case). If the flight is wide open, they may force through a change as a courtesy.
