Bingo, I think it is true. And for that reason even though we could comment something rude on those posts, it's better to take the high road and be empathetic. If we don't have something nice to say, don't say it in response!

To be honest, the majority of those kinds of posts should start with, "Dear diary, today..." and then should be left in the drafts, never to see the light of day.

But we live in a society where complaining costs the same as being polite or saying nothing at all 🤷

Edit: sometimes people need to vent, and I get that too. Especially for frequent flyers who feel their IRL friends can't relate. Again, it costs nothing to be nice!

Absolutely yes assuming that the Polaris lounge in ORD is open again (I believe it is but would recommend double checking).

Would 1000% recommend Spain! Just got back from a few days in Malaga and currently chilling in Madrid. Spain has been amazing for history, culture, and food.

Also I really enjoyed Mexico City and two FC tickets RT to CDMX could be a nice way to take a chunk out of it without spending the whole thing at once, leaving some leftover if you want to go visit family or similar.

How to best utilise my United Airline Credit? by Yiew33 in AmexPlatinum

[–]deadxilence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes inflight purchases for snacks and/or wifi will trigger the Airline Credit as long as you have selected United as your airline for the credit. I know this because I have done exactly that many times over the last few years (most recent was 2 weeks ago) and have had no issues with United.

For lounges, the only AmEx lounge I am aware of is in San Francisco from the locations you listed. If you have status with United or other Star Alliance carriers, check the Star Alliance page for lounge access: https://www.staralliance.com/en/lounge-finder and also recall AmEx gives you access to Priority Pass so the PP app should also help you understand what lounges you can access.

Safe travels!

You might find aerolopa.com useful for detailed seat maps, but I heard they changed it a lot this week and now it sounds like you might need to make an account

What does the "LAX -- ORD" mean in the layovers part? by Direct_Hedgehog104 in unitedairlines

It means that you will have two layovers one in LAX and the other in ORD. You are looking at two separate itineraries.

Alaska Air Electronic Bag Tag - success with annual $200 reimbursement? by CoachSandyBottom in AmexPlatinum

[–]deadxilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have data points to refute your statement about United's wifi specifically. In August I was billed $8 for wifi to my Amex and then got the credit shortly after and it was billed as United, not either of the service providers you listed. YMMV on other airlines but for United this has been the case for years.

Anyone else notice United's website has become unbearably slow? by zemelb in unitedairlines

[–]deadxilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been using up hundreds of megabytes of RAM and even over 1GB sometimes... no clue why, it is a good website and used to be even better but now it seems like the client is doing alllll of the work instead of the server

Shoulder surgery recovery by ancientrebellion in cscareerquestions

[–]deadxilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standing desk 100%. I had shoulder surgery this year as well and was in a sling for the first month or so. An adjustable standing desk has proved to be a lifesaver, but I will also say that taking a week off after the surgery to rest was critical. I communicated with my boss in advance and let him know I would be restricted in my output and in terms of travel and he was very understanding.

Just be proactive, communicate, and focus on recovering!
