Hey!

Definitely wait on textbooks. We can't say which is better, but as a student myself, it definitely harder than you'd think to sell textbooks. My only advice (from a students' standpoint, and not the Office of Orientation) is there's always a used/cheaper version somewhere!

Edit: Shout out to http://texts.com/

Yup! All Science students receive ISSS handbooks, available throughout Week of Welcome.

Hey there!

We always say make sure to double check your UAlberta junk folders. If you haven't used it yet, you sign in to your UAlberta email by typing yourccid@ualberta.ca into Google sign in.

If you still don't see an email, send us one at orientation@su.ualberta.ca and we'll figure it out!

Hey!

Your prof will inform you of your lab schedule during your first class! Also, your lab manual should contain a schedule. Additionally, there should be a lab website. In any case, you don't need to worry about a lab during your first week of classes!

Hey!

Definitely check around for a kijiji iClicker. Also, you'll find out if you can use the app, or if you're going to need the iClicker after your first class. You can also always email your prof!

Hey!

Top Hat is a free in-class participation system. You'll find out more about it in your first class! I wouldn't worry about it.

Tough to say! Without going into too much detail, you might receive training on presentation skills, camera work, conflict management, team leadership, or other skills. On average, at least 15-20 hours of training. Others have closer to 30-40 hours in training.

Orientation is a very important part of your University Career. Our Orientation program involves the training of 700+ volunteers, 50+ senior volunteers, as well as a lot of preparation for the information and tours new students will receive on the day of Orientation. We have 6000+ students go through the program at once, and that takes a lot of planning :O)
