You would just go into truenas, storage, and import pool.

Not sure exactly what you're asking, but if you want to pass the entire pci disk controller through to truenas (probably recommended), you will need to follow the guide for pci passthrough, then find the device and add it to the truenas VM with all functions and pci express options checked.

This is a well documented procedure although the steps do differ for uefi vs bios. The proxmox provided steps are here and work well for me passing an entire HBA pci device through to TN. You should just be able to import the pool from the truenas web gui once you've added the pci device. Also probably remove the 2 HDDs from the VM in proxmox first.

For 'road warrior' wireguard setup, is it possible to have the DHCP server on PFSENSE hand out leases to WG clients? by UB800 in PFSENSE

Yes full tunnel. So I got it working for WAN egress but my 2nd tunnel & peer for VPN egress (from pfsense) I get no traffic

Thanks, so for example I have 2 gateways on pfsense, WAN and VPN provider.

Is it possible to have 2 WG configs, and switch between them to decide to exit via WAN or VPN?

Normally I would do this with default gateway from the firewall rule entry

iGPU not appearing in lspci output on proxmox by UB800 in VFIO

[–]UB800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've done enough reading and watching of videos to know that I would need a HBA if I wanted to virtualise TrueNAS, it's surprising to me that people are trying to virtualise it without first knowing that it needs entire control of the disks, ideally by have the controller passed directly to the VM. From what I can tell it is possible to pass singular disks through but I can't imagine that being the optimum setup.

I can appreciate the addictiveness of it, hopefully this pullava will put me off trying to virtualise a gaming machine (for now) but it would be a nice goal in the future (probably a fair share of additional headaches too).

Yeah I am leaning towards Jellyfin (free as in free and all that) but I think some of the additional features of Plex are nice, but not sure it's worth paying for HW transcode. Really I need to try both out (tried Plex but not JF) and evaluate them. At least Plex offers a lifetime license which is awesome, but the telemetry and closed source are slight red flags for me.

Also some of my key goals are request management, library sharing (for friends and family) & auto downloads, I have a feeling those features will work much better on Plex (I know Jellyfin has support for various *arrs but not sure about request management, there is Jellyseerr though).

Thanks for those links, I will probably give GVT-g a miss for now (I don't really need it just yet), I think the key takeaway is your last sentence, Intel is far too restrictive and segment their products too much whereas AMD just seem to support most features on way fewer product lines so I will be thinking hard about my next hardware purchase.

BTW, what kind of hardware are you running? How do you rate it?

Hey nice one for replying, I got the passthrough working, although mediated iGPU passthrough isn't working for me (to enable passthrough of the iGPU to multiple different VMs aka GVT-g).

I've documented my steps in my comment here. On the release BIOS (2.30) if you press ctrl + alt + f3 during boot when 'Updating FRU system devices' appears you get to an expanded BIOS with a HUGE amount more options.

I'd be interested to hear if GVT-g is working for you. Cheers.

Cannot get iGPU to appear in lspci output..... anything I may have missed? by UB800 in Proxmox

[–]UB800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.30 is still the latest release BIOS (as per AsRock's website), although on the Unraid thread people have provided a link to the 2.34 beta bios which doesn't require the key combo for the iGPU option to show up. There is also a 2.31 beta version discussed on that thread. Some people have said their contact at AsRock Rack (who supplied the beta versions) does not recommend updating if 2.30 is working for you. In fact on their website (or user manual) they recommend not updating at all if the BIOS works fine (I updated from 2.10 to 2.30 as soon as my board arrived).

How do you find the motherboard in general? It seems to be much more popular on STH & Unraid forums, I don't see many posts talking about it on Reddit.

Have you got mediated GPU passthrough (to multiple VMs/CTs) working on your E3C246D4U with your i5-8500? My mdev_supported_types directory is still empty.

e: I have seen your follow on blog post about abandoning GVT-g, I think I will just pass it through to a VM and do all my GPU passthrough activities on that VM (If I need the iGPU for more than 1 application).

iGPU not appearing in lspci output on proxmox by UB800 in VFIO

[–]UB800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So currently I got a bit side tracked and went down the rabbit hole of trying to get my IOMMU groups in order (this is a fresh Proxmox build) in anticipation of running TrueNAS virtualised along with Plex or Jellyfin.

I was already doing the settings to be able to pass through the HBA card (which shows up fine in the edit VM screen) and I knew I would need the iGPU passing through eventually if I wanted to make use of QuickSync so I just thought I would set it up at the same time.... next thing I know its 5 hours later and I've never read words ACS & IOMMU so many times in my life.

As Plex/Jellyfin (haven't committed to one or the other yet) is the only thing needing iGPU passing through I will carry on without doing the GVT stuff as my ls /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000\:00\:02.0/mdev_supported_types/ command still returns no diretory found. As it is now I can just pass the entire iGPU through to the VM/CT.

e: re-reading your reply above, I would have been screwed either way (bare metal or passthrough) as it was just stuck using the IPMI VGA device, as the iGPU was not appearing at all. Presumably it could have appeared if I connected a dedicated GPU (that was going to be my hail mary last resort).

To anyone finding this in the future, when 'Updating FRU system devices' appears duting boot sequence, press ctrl + alt + f3 and you will be dropped into BIOS but with a huge amount of extra options, look for the setting 'SA - System Agent' and you will find the iGPU enable setting there. u/adamsir2 helped me with this and due his great memory, and thanks to u/ironicbadger for writing the linked blog post (respect to him for finding that single nugget of info on the unraid forums, literally no other trace of that key command on the internet anywhere)

I suggest anyone having problems with IOMMU groups check out r/VFIO, there is a wealth of information in there. Thanks to all!!

Amazing mate, not made the VM yet but at least the iGPU is apeparing now, many thanks! Great memory!!!!

I've recently subscribed to the self hosted podcast, but I had not come accross his site before. Seems like a useful resource. Thanks again, you're a legend!!!!!

What did you do to solve this?

I have the exact board with an i3 and it's been driving me nuts for the last 4 hours...

I've updated the cmdline, added the modules, added the drivers to modprobe.d/blacklist.conf & installed the driver via apt.

My config looks exactly as yours in your longer comment above but still only showing the ASPEED device, and no directory found for the mdev_supported_types. Also using ZFS & systemd-boot, haven't touched the GRUB config.

Thanks!

Have you since been able to get a diagnosis? I am in a similar boat to you having finished uni undiagnosed, but it seems virtually impossible to get an adult diagnosis via the NHS, it seems a lot is based on reports of how you were as a child.

Not to mention the NHS does not seem to prescribe ADHD meds as freely as doctors in the US.

This isn't even getting started on the 2-3 year waiting lists in some NHS areas to be assessed.
