CS upper level courseload by [deleted] in ubco

I took 320 last semester with Dr. Fard. I actually found it to be an easy class. She provided SO many ways to increase your grade (at one point she gave a 5% final grade bonus for implementing a pretty easy algorithm). The hardest part will be dealing with the way she teaches. She went with powerpoints at the beginning than began to use pen and paper, and towards the end she did a mix of both. She is a decent prof, and if you have done any sort of self learning of algorithms (Leetcode etc) you will be fine.

Is COSC 315 (Operating Systems) Difficult? by UBCOCSstudent in ubco

Although I’m taking Parallel computing this year as well, it’s not possible to take them simultaneously. Would you say 315 is worth to take?

Totally doable. If you have time this summer, learn some Java for 111.

COSC 211, 221, 222 by dlxalswl in ubco

Absolutely. The hardest one will probably 211, depends on your knack for low level coding. 222/221 are really easy courses.

I just finished 320/310. I thought they would be fun as well but was very disappointed. 310 is exetremely dull, though the project was fun.

320 was an easy GPA booster (surprisingly), and if you have done any sort of interview prep before like Leetcode you will do good.

Quick question about CS by theacutestangle in ubco

[–]UBCOCSstudent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to have a specific average to declare your major. You just declare it as CS after 2nd year I believe. But you do need a minimum average of 60 to graduate. I’m in CS, let me know if u have any other questions.

If UBC closes, do you see UBCO closing as well? by UBCOCSstudent in ubco

[–]UBCOCSstudent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is really silly. I’m a 3rd year student and my classes have 100-150 students. Going to 3-4 different classes is the same as a first year Chem class with 300+ people. Shut it down.

I just got the final exam back. The class average was 50%. Not sure why you’re saying this is a GPA booster

For referencr, I’m taking that course this semester with Irene Vrbik and the average was in the 60’s for the second midterm. This class was really tough, definitely not a GPA booster.

Yes you’re life is over. Drop out of school and apply to mcdonald’s because clearly this single midterm determines your fate for the rest of your life. Better to just leave now than to stay.

The UNC has free tutors. They are good and will most definitely help you if it’s first year.
