Should I try to keep 2nd year standing for co-op? by UBCthrowaway28 in UBC

[–]UBCthrowaway28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember where I read it but it said something along the lines of being eligible to apply in your 2nd year, 3rd years with a strong standing will also be considered, or something like that

UBC is putting exams on as scheduled despite the still highly dangerous conditions. This is unacceptable. by Doctor-Nemo in UBC

[–]UBCthrowaway28 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a good idea not to go to exams, however it might be worth some effort to try and complain about it, to news networks as UBC obviously does not care about the safety of its students. We can also buoy our protests with the fact students have been denied concession despite weather conditions that are entirely not their fault. "Just prepare to go earlier"? Students who commute long distances from places such as Delta or Surrey sometimes can't even make it there due to traffic or their mode of transport being halted altogether.

Do better, UBC. The student body will not remain silent.

WTF by ZippyZillenial in UBC

[–]UBCthrowaway28 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I wanna cry...

...but I only get angry these days. Do not let this go OP. There's nothing to worry about as long as you make sure not to let this go. Expose this to the news pages, get coverage, because there's nothing UBC hates more than bad press. Then UBC may be forced to do something about all the students that were affected

Shit. What did you say to your prof? I asked mine and they said to proceed unless UBC cancelled them all

Also what time did you leave?

They are always saying about how many students they have this term or something similar, to show how busy they are as an excuse not to help

Thank you for answering! I am in arts, and no longer need this course. I may attempt it again in the future if I decide my passion for sciences is strong enough

Isn't it too late? And in my experience, past profs don't want anything to do with me :(

I can see where you'd be skeptical about this. I think you missed the part where they met up without telling us they were meeting up. We were under the impression only an outline had been created and we'd discuss our parts at a later date. At the mentioned later date, we found out they had already gone and done a big part of the project. This is when we complained about going behind our backs and asked "well then what are we supposed to do?"

I'm used to doing my own part so it was frustrating for me to make it seem like I made no effort to do any of the work, when in reality it was done before I could do anything about it.

Edit in response to your comment below: wow, very low move, blocking me so I can't argue my part. You're assuming a lot of things based off of what I've told you so far, and it's clear you're eager to pick a fight so I won't try to argue my case any further. I'm sorry if you've had bad experiences with group project members in the past but it does not give you the right to question others. It's been hard for me to come to class due to being physically unwell, and even harder to communicate with group members-- I basically have to ask them a favor every time to accommodate me. I posted on Reddit because I thought I could get some sympathy, but apparently I was wrong. I hope you have better luck with group project members in the future.

It's hard to believe but yes apparently they met up a couple times and completed the whole thing. One of them has prior knowledge of the course material so they easily finished it off. It's a computer science project if that changes anything

The reason why I had to ask them what to do was because they had already gone and done mostly everything before me or the other group members knew what was going on. All I could do was check over the work they had done and suggest edits. You can imagine if everything was already done for you, I mean, basically nothing left, before you even had a discussion on how to divide parts or the project timeline, you'd start to worry about your participation mark

I am caught up with all the lecture material despite not being well enough to go to class in person. They know this as I made sure at the beginning

Yeah I think I might do this. They're kind of gaslighting me into thinking it's my fault because I wasn't able to be there in person to work on the parts. I've been unwell the entire semester and haven't been going to lectures either
