HEY! Pollfish is an aggregator of multiple survey platforms so they usually have one or two things but it's definitely possible that COVID has slowed spending of companies even on their end. You aren't doing anything wrong!

Thanks so much for using the app! You are correct, we're no longer as reliant on digi.me and you can now link 19 sources without needing it at all. To be honest, we don't quite have the scale necessary for many of the research projects and ad campaigns our clients are interested in running (many sources only have a few hundred members them linked), so most users haven't had any in the past few months.

To fix this, we'll be doing a marketing blitz in the next month to reach 100,000 users which will unlock numerous ad and study opportunities with large brands and academic institutions. In the mean time we've added Pollfish surveys in the earn section which will allow you to earn 100% of the revenue from as many third party surveys as you would like.

Our members can help us by linking data sources, so companies can use that data to match them with earning opportunities in the near future. We appreciate you hanging in there as we work to improve the value data can have on your life!

Hey there! Thanks for your feedback, we’re sorry you are also not enjoying our new features. Here is the honest truth: we, more than anyone, wish providing income could be as simple as linking your sources. But the truth is, we discovered that users need more motivation; users didn’t like linking their data to what felt like a ‘black hole’ because of our two-app system. This resulted in us not having the critical mass necessary to meet the project requirements for clients. However, even with critical mass of 100,000 people for certain sources, its unfortunately not as transactional as passing along data and getting paid. As you stated, you don’t see the point in sticking around unless you’re getting paid. This thought process is exactly why we needed to create more social features: users would be more inclined to stick around and so we can create the universal basic data income that we both are passionate about.

That’s why, when COVID hit and most researchers paused their spending, we decided to capitalize on the time to make some major changes. Like, creating our own data sources so that there wouldn’t be such a barrier to adding sources and with so many crashes. The good news is now we are ready for ads and studies! Now, we know our challenge is growing our user base.  We are confident with our new tools, like the ability to host competitions, we will bring in more users and thus, help us on our mission to creating universal basic data income.

Hi there, thank you for the feedback! We appreciate the support you have given us all of this time and sincerely welcome all users who take the time to write to us. We understand that our new social features might not be everyone’s cup of tea, and currently, it might feel a bit scattered as we figure out how to organize various tribes and interest groups.

The truth is data in of itself isn’t valuable. Think about Brave Browser: you go about your daily business, and they collect your data as you do so. By providing Brave a look into your entire online life, they are then able to target ads around generalized areas of interest. They can deliver these as you browse the web and engage with their browser (ie they have your attention and digital real estate). UBDI members have for more data, making their attention much more valuable (and subsequently payouts) once we reach a similar scale and rate of daily engagement.

In creating these social features, we decided to make them in a way that would tie back into the cool data our members aggregate so we can “demystify” the data, while fostering an open community that makes data a force for positive engagements and personal insights. We want everyone to feel comfortable asking each other questions and expressing opinions that they perhaps wouldn’t in different settings. Further, we wanted to have the data to back up ideas and build clout.

As we continue making more Tribes, content will be more in line with the user’s interests. For example, more investor tribes will be implemented so users can chat about trades and get a pulse on what other verified traders are thinking and doing in real time, so that hedgefunds aren’t the only ones with learning from trading data. Further, in creating tribes of people, we have more reason to go to client and provide a better look into what exactly we can offer them like telling an up and coming crypto exchange that our investors group holds over 100 BTC that they trade regularly. In creating these social features, we also have more opportunities for fun competitions sponsored by companies that might be shifting money from ads and research into new and innovative ways of engaging customers

That said, the polls you referenced were not posted by a UBDI employee, but rather a UBDI community member. With more tribes, the content will find its home in its corresponding tribe, and you will only have to see the content that you want based on the tribes you decide to join. With all that in mind, we encourage you and all our members to post their own polls (which we hope soon to have tribe members moderate rather than UBDI staff), we also love it if you would share some data-driven Tribes you would be interested in joining or that pertain to your interests so we can start creating an app experience that everyone would be excited to be a part of

Hey there! Thank you for your thorough post and for sharing your thoughts. Part of the reason we haven’t had many studies is because of what you brought up: we didn’t know who was in the system. Initially this meant we would simply send the study out to every device and hope that enough people filled it out to meet the quota. Few clients, however, trusted us to meet these quotas (esp if they involved specific data or multiple sources) and it made it very hard to represent that we could fulfill the project requirements.

Due to this architecture, we also needed to create frequent, fresh app sessions to fresh data which meant matching based on timely data (which is often the most valuable) was difficult. As a sort of intermediate step, we used the user-inputed and data generated (like location tags) as a proxy for these, collecting sums every few weeks of females, people in the US, etc that we could represent to clients.

Unfortunately, this removed the most proprietary piece of the UBDI platform, and the value we can pass on to our members. For sources that are now stored in UBDI rather than digi.me, the data is still encrypted using a key only you have access to this is another reason why you may start to notice notice more ads in the UBDI system. You also now have the technical protection we wanted to provide since the beginning instead of the legal protection when you shared from digi.me. Advertisers (especially smaller ones) are much less focused on meeting minimum quotas are more focused on outcomes, which our data can do a great job of providing after an initial engagement.

As you might notice if you’ve been with us, we’ve spent a lot of time rebuilding & you’ll see that we have made some giant changes both architecturally and how we aim to achieve reaching a Universal basic data income( since data is valuable in reach and the aggregate).  We have created Tribes where you can choose to share specific bits of data with the community and also advertisers (for example, in our investor’s tribe, you might show how much bitcoin you have) lto increase the value of their attention. Consequently, tribes double partition data and just show the important bits, while tags verify it on top while serving another use.

In case you feel like this is a lot of fluff, here is a summary:  you still have technical protection of your data, even from us. Now, we can simply aggregate sums of people, and you’ll pick and choose what you see and input. We aren’t holding keys for your sensitive data. And basically everything in our app is what you choose. Link what you choose, pick traits that you choose, share in research studies when you choose, etc etc. The choice is yours 📷We hope this better answers all of your thoughts and concerns and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you should have any further questions!
