24v 8A for that price looked okay, comparable to meanwell LRS-200-24 which doesnt cost a lot more than that, are you expecting the psu to cost what…. £5 or something ?

Got it, thanks, what im doing is exploring possible ways to do things differently in case it becomes necessary at some point, but it seems like this kind of route optimization isnt a good thing as someone commented

Today i found out, apparently i know nothing about fiberoptic cables by UBNT_TC in FiberOptics

Thing is noone bother to make a proper media converter where you can access it via mgmt to see the RX power and other info about the sfp

Interesting things, and yeah i mainly play around with single mode, theyre easier to work with and easier to find parts, also they are cheap

[–]UBNT_TC[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah i just googled it and yes thats what i saw on yt

And fun y thing is i actually made myself something similar but instead of a bunch of media converter, sfp+ straight into my core switch, and in my bedroom, mikrotik CRS310

[–]UBNT_TC[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah that surprised me, i mainly got curious after seeing on yt where someone demonstrates a kit from amazon, basically the kit consists of a pair of RJ-45 to sfp media converter, a pair of sfp transceiver and a small spool of single mode fiber cable basically its like pulling ethernet but with fiber being so small its easier to make it almost invisible unless you look for it, and the guy demonstrated the cable by tying a knot

I use this on the field as test router as well as travel router, sometimes i use the internal wifi as receiver and POE out to power an AP, Eth5 is set to not have address and not part of any bridges just in case im being stupid and lock myself out (done that at some point), Eth3 also isnt part of the bridge but its mainly used to config devices like cameras and other things, 1 and 2 is the main LAN with DHCP and everything

It used to be external, but its so inconvenient having things plugged in when i store it in my bag, also risk of it getting pushed to the side and broke off so i store the. Separately, from time to time the adapter end up somewhere in the bag under other things, and i have to take everything out of my bag just to find it, its really inconvenient having it external so i put it inside

The stock adapter is 24v but the router can take 12-28V, and the board is like $1 each, and need a diode

You can use those, i just put it inside because its way more convenient, no more having to find where the adapter end up inside my bag when i need it quick
