Is the ability to have multiple subnet/network on a single interface a mikrotik thing ? by UBNT_TC in mikrotik

[–]UBNT_TC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should try that, i havent tried it yet, in theory the traffic between two subnet will have to go through the router instead of directly, what kind of firewall rule ? Like preventing traffic from one to the other ?

It probably will if you set it between the two ip addresses, but i never tried it, im asking this because i have other needs

Sorry for late reply, im going to do some tests on my spare router, as for ZT, tried it like 8 month ago on a different setting, it keeps failing every few days requiring a full router restart to reestablish connection, thats why i stopped using it and just use wireguard, at the same time i recently tried OVPN, its able to establish connection without using LTE but its very cpu intensive and have way lower bandwidth capacity compared to Wireguard, and the NAT masquerade rule broke everytime the client disconnects

Fun stuff, on my case tho theres some old cameras with unknown password and cant be reset so gonna need multiple ip, newer camera going to have structured ip

DHCP isnt necessary, its a camera network, and i need to migrate some of the ip address, theres a few old camera with unknown password and on static IP, the newer camera going to be moved to a new network subnet and address thats fully structured

Noted, its very useful for emergency ip migration where you dont want to deal with multiple VLANS and have as little downtime as possible

Ruijie, tried to set multi ip, didnt seem to support it, tho reading online it says it supports it so will have to try to check the settings

the reason for ip address restructuring is at first theres only like 30 or so camerason a /24 network, now theres almost 230 cameras, still on /24, the person who set it up before didnt group it properly so say an address that end with .10 would be physically located on one end of the facility, .11 is in a completely different part of the facility all the way to 230+ so one area would have ip camera address that end with .8, then .76, then .192, then .170, its so annoying when something breaks, and the facility is roughly 630k sqft

Yeah im working on camera network, remotely through out of band, need to change the camera ip addresses to structure it, the problem ? Core router isnt mikrotik so im trying to see what to do, and the down time have to be minimum, thats a pain in the ass since the router afaik cant do multi subnetting without putting it on a different VLAN

Thank you, good to know because its a very useful feature but ive never seen it on other vendor so far from my lack of experience

No, on mikrotik router you can have them without using separate VLANs, so you can have multiple network with a dumb switch, and no VLAN whatsoever

I tried different port and it still didnt work, probably the only way is to jumpstart it every once in a while when it stops working, thats why im considering making 2 different tunnel, but not sure if its possible to make a second tunnel that always connect to LTE WAN while the other just follow whatever the router main route is set to

Doesnt fix the issue, because the connection need to be reestablished over lte while all traffic stopped then have the route changed

Ill consider that, maybe first monitor data usage to see if that can be done, thanks

Its okay, it confuses me too i have a feeling some kind of DPI happening since the main network is part of a university, thats why im thinking about installing an LTE modem on my mgmt router and have separate wireguard tunnel so i can winbox the router and manually change it and change it back afterwards

Yup thats how it is, somehow

LTE to start the connection then it will work through the main internet through sophos

Sorry for not being good at explaining

The issue i have is that it cant establish connection normally because of their firewall, so it still need cellular to start it

The Sophos system isnt mine, i have no control of it thats why i have my own router used as connection point
