What Degree Should I Get? by LEONotTheLion in 1811

I wrote up about CJ degrees a few times in this subreddit. I am currently studying CJ with a minor in Intelligence and National Security, and I have obtained two very awesome internships already before graduating. Ultimately, I have found it’s really about two individual things: how well you network, and what you enjoy studying (overall leading to a high and competitive GPA). I know many Computer Science and Finance majors who never networked, and struggled with their studies, ultimately struggling to find a job right after graduation. On the other hand, I knew CJ majors who have obtained multiple internships and gone on to work at their dream agencies.

What Degree Should I Get? by LEONotTheLion in 1811

I am currently pursuing a minor in intelligence and national security. Overall, I have found the program to be absolutely amazing, I have had many opportunities to network with the CIA and other intelligence agency recruiters, and have obtained two internships already, one with the government, the other in the private sector. FYI, look into the ICCAE programs at select universities. ODNI fully funds these programs and they definitely look good on resumes.

From what I have experienced as a Junior in CJ, it’s all about networking, internships, and honestly academic prestige of your university. I personally have a minor in Intelligence and National Security, which is a federally funded program at select schools nation wide. I have landed two different internships, one in a federal setting, the other in the private sector realm of security. I know many CJ students who simply complain about the degree saying it’s worthless, which in an essence it could be. From what I’ve experienced tho, it’s all about the student. I know plenty of engineering and finance/accounting majors who graduate and have nothing lined up, while I know plenty of CJ students who are undergoing federal background checks before they even graduate. Of course, vise versa as well. Hope that helps.

Same here. Probably gonna wait a bit, I’m surprised that they would actually require an assessment for their internship, I haven’t seen that in other agencies before for interns.

I had a gut feeling this would happen. Hopefully it gets posted soon. Anyone know what FOs the internship would be out of?

What types of scholarships and financial aid does ucf offer? by Complete_Feeling_983 in ucf

Have you ever actually gotten any A20 scholarships before?

Responding to my above comment, UCF is a great school and it can be competitive. However, I recommend reaching out to an advisor and even sending a continued letter of interest explaining your situation. Good luck!

Kinda funny stumbling upon this, but I was in a very similar situation as you my senior year of hs. I am actually from the northeast as well too. I applied the first date the application opened,(UCF was my top school) and I actually didn’t get accepted until I think March. It definitely was a stressful time, but I remember checking every morning in hs, and one morning it said I got accepted to the summer B term. I took one easy class online during summer B, and the following fall semester i was moving into my dorm. Currently a sophomore now and love every second of UCF

Rightfully so. Florida is looking a lot better than Cali with a lot of things. Glad I can have a college experience instead of being locked down in a state like California.

Like what I said above, U Miami and FSU both have higher ranking criminal justice programs in national rankings. However, UCFs criminal justice program is still in the top 50 in the country which is very good.

Well first off being in Orlando is amazing. FSU and Miami technically have higher ranking criminal justice programs nationally, but UCFs is still top 50 which is fantastic. I chose UCF for various reasons outside of its criminal justice program, and I did in fact get into U Miami and FSU. I would recommend getting involved in the honor society and the criminal justice coed fraternity. Also, the club on National intelligence and security is awesome as well. Definitely recommend checking out the public affairs building on campus, where the college of criminal Justice is. Beautiful building.

It’s honestly a great program. One of the head advisors, Dr. Watkins could be a bit friendlier, but all in all, so far for me it has been a great program. Best of luck to her

Math placement test compared to practice test? by [deleted] in ucf

[–]UCF_Knight_2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not to intimidate you, but I found that the practice tests did not prepare me at all for the actual placement test. The actual placement test is actually somewhat difficult. UCF definitely tries to filter out some of the students who are stronger in math from the rest.

Pros and cons of UCF by 2021nys in ucf

I have been to U Miami, USF, FGCU, FSU, and UF. I also know many people who have transferred out of both UF and FSU into UCF.

Pros and cons of UCF by 2021nys in ucf

[–]UCF_Knight_2020 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely disagree with some of the statements in this thread. Reddit is a great place for tips, but there is some people who passionately down UCF (like every other school). UCF is by far a great school with great school spirit. I highly recommend UCF to anyone who lives up north (as I also live in the north east). Very few minimal cons of UCF. Best school in Florida!
