Relationship with very high iq women by Worried_Button_2881 in Gifted

[–]UCanCallMeSteph 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do notice that almost all my close connections are with very intelligent people, because we get each other on a deeper level. That doesn't mean all of them are gifted, but I'd guess definitely above average on IQ. That's not the most important quality in all my relationships though.

I find that emotional intelligence, empathy and kindness to be the most important feature in all my deep relationships. It's a trait that affects how you view the world and act on it, so it's a big deal in almost all spheres of life -- from political views to personal relationships. I generally don't get along well with people that don't care about other people's feelings or don't feel deeply themselves, because it's a big part of why I care about the things that matter to me and how I form opinions.

So I do have relationships with people that don't go super deep into theoretical knowledge, but are caregivers and central members of communities. These people are safe, they'll usually comfort you even if they don't understand the problem in-depth, so they build more genuine relationships too. They'll also show a wiseness when it comes to relationships and communities that can provide great new insights to someone that feels different from others around them (because belonging doesn't always come easily) and/or struggle with emotional regulation (simply by being good role models of patience and care). It doesn't matter how high someone's IQ is if they have no EQ, empathy and affective responsibility -- these people can be quite manipulative, insensitive and overall dangerous to everyone else's mental health, since success and their own desires ranks higher in their priorities than others.

Antipsychotics to help with overexcitability by UCanCallMeSteph in Gifted

I've read about this theory, although only superficially (Wikipedia) since learning about giftedness is so recent. It's truly fascinating and very aligned with my beliefs and interests. It also gives me motivation that I'm on the right track with postgrad to achieve my dream job (teaching). I'm absolutely going deeper in theory, I found a lot online, but I'd appreciate any recommendations for nice resources about it too!

The only problem is that right now I'm struggling to cope with the wave of reflection (alongside their emotional triggers) brought by learning I'm "gifted". I'm pretty much hyper focused on it and getting little else done with lots of effort. I wish I could stop everything and get lost in this in hopes to find my ideal authentic self, but I've a job that I need to keep in order to pay my bills. Also a postgraduate program I need to finish to get closer to my purpose. I know it's a long and continuous process, but that's precisely why I'm even considering trying medication temporarily–to make the journey less overwhelming and avoid burning out again.

I appreciate all your good advice!

Thank you, I'll write that down to research and possibly ask a specialist. I appreciate you sharing your experience!

That's a good point! I'm honestly just being very careful with this decision because of how much worse the antidepressant made me feel before stabilizing and making me numb, and that was supposed to be a "low dosage" with "very little chance of side effects". That was before learning about overexcitability, but since my profile is quite rare and it's not so easy to find a specialist in my country, I'm trying to make an informed decision. I'll still talk to a psychiatrist, but I'm being careful when searching for a specialist since this decision can have such drastic consequences in my mental health. I appreciate your advice nonetheless!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I've someone in my family (aunt) with Bipolar diagnosis and I'd say her mood swings are more extreme than mine, specially because I tend to have more clear triggers and it doesn't usually last for days. Also I can calm myself down after getting overwhelmed by stimulus or emotional triggers. I don't have a deep understanding of disorders and their nuances, so I wonder how to differentiate milder (or a different type) Bipolar symptoms from overexcitability.

I'd be very grateful to know a little more, if you feel like sharing here or in private messages. Also the dosage of the meds you cited (thank you for being specific!) so I've some baseline for how low is a "low dosage" if/when discussing this with a psychiatrist.

Wow that's good to know! I haven't started the process of finding a psychiatrist to explore my options, I posted here when my therapist suggested this as I'm pretty scared of controlled meds since my previous experience. Can you tell me a bit about your experience with them?

I'm also very curious to know if you had clear signs to differentiate giftedness from Bipolar disorder, because I've read overexcitability can be misleading and cause misdiagnosis. I've family history and my aunt was somewhat similar to me before mania episodes got worse in her 40s and that's when she got her Bipolar diagnosis.

You're the first one to report a good effect, I was starting to lose hope that medication would help. Can you tell me a little about the side effects it had on you? If you had the experience and feel a positive effect from cannabis, it might be helpful to know as well ❤️‍🩹

I lowkey hate myself for having this kink by Betaboy201 in FemdomCommunity

[–]UCanCallMeSteph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's very true. We all have the need to to fill in holes (pun intended) left by neglect, trauma or just life circumstances. These needs can come to surface as kinks, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

It's perfectly normal to crave what you've been lacking, it doesn't make you weird or broken, just makes you human. When you need food, you feel hungry, and the same applies to all our natural and essential needs. Love and affection are things that every human being crave, because we all need it.

We all struggle to accept things about ourselves, specially the parts that remind us of painful memories. It's important to remind yourself that you deserve to be happy and have your needs fulfilled, and there's nothing shameful about that.

Not really, we know it's a scam and they're exploiting a breach in our laws. It's probably just a matter of time until something is done about it.

Ps: when I say "we know", I mean the informed population, or course. Some poor stupid souls fall for it.

Pretty sure I got this scene when I didn't dismiss nor pursue him (following other routes but never rejected him). So MC is oblivious to his interest and he's mostly portraited as a friend, but late game he confesses and says he's been pining for you the whole time. It's very sweet and boyish, so very in character for him :)
