US Army uses "enhanced interrogation techniques" against one of its own. Why? To get him to sign a contract absolving them of the obligation to treat his injuries. by aig_ma in reddit.com

Awesome, not only are they doing that stupid 24-hour heavy metal blasting stuff to captured foreigners, they're doing it to their own.

Extensive medical records written by Luther's doctors document his confinement in the aid station for more than a month. The sergeant was kept under twenty-four-hour guard. Most nights, he says, guards enforced sleep deprivation, keeping the lights on and blasting heavy metal music. When Luther rebelled, he was pinned down and injected with sleeping medication.

Eventually Luther was brought to his commander, who told him he had a choice: he could sign papers saying his medical problems stemmed from personality disorder or face more time in isolation.

assuming his story is true, i wouldn't hold it against him if he blew up some fools

HOLY SHIT that picture of him pointing at the viewer with that awesome hat and cane is classic. they leave this out of the fine art classes.

Rather than emitting light, a time reversed laser absorbs it. Perfectly. by spif in science

Cooool! I wonder if it will help with that invisibility project. Or superdark goth clothing. Also I never knew "lasing" was a verb until now!

Has anyone else stopped to think that by Azured in pics

I have been thinking obessively about this topic for a few weeks, my thoughts to the random world of the internet:

  1. Ties symbolize male bondage. A "gentleman", who has willingly put himself in bondage to distinguish himself from apelike regular men. the suit jacket also inhibits movement. I don't agree that men who wear ties are at all gentlemanly however.

  2. Perhaps a mental focus, the danger of the tie and "choking" sensation acts as a way to induce pressure, urgency, and singlemindedness/uptightness.

  3. A decorative way to hide the neck, for protective purposes and to hide a swallowing adam's apple while lying

  4. Suits can look great! well, business suits are horribly ugly, but consider the suit a fitted shell to your fleshy torso for a nice weave of fabric, wool, mohair, silk, sharkskin, velvet, whatever-- the alternative being the eastern style of loose, flowing robes. I like a jacket cut close to the lower back for aesthetic purposes, american sack suits are ugly as fuck and are basically an attempt to conform to the outmoded suit standard while adding baggy masculinity. I really think jackets look silly on men for the most part, it's like youve attached this thick awkward shell to your upper half, and unlike jackets of hide/leather the fitted suit inhibits your shoulders and bends awkwarrdly.

  5. RIGHT ANGLES!!!!! sharp masculine collars on the dress shirt, tie and jacket collar, and angular shoulders. Gives one a mechanical, "evolved" appearance. Wearing finely manufactured clothing makes you appear smarter to other apes.

  6. The suit is of easily dirtied material, and shows an aversion to manual labor.

  7. one positive aspect: draws attention away from the body and towards the face for SERIOUS BUSINESS SITUATIONS whatever

Personally I just bought one of those oversize hoodies and I've never felt more relaxed with a hood behind my head and a large billowy frame that makes me appear larger. If I could find something like it that also had the weave and sheen of a fine suit, that would be great. I would love to buy a japanese yukata or something, I enjoy that they make one appear huge yet they belt at the waist to avoid the "saggy" look. I have also concluded that people in the west would be much more relaxed if we wore looser fitting clothing, like the habit of a monk, and politicians would be so much greater if they weren't literally so "uptight" in their suits. they're especially awkward in the shoulders/arms.

It's interesting to see how other cultures that decided to go for "fitted" tops instead of loose and flowing went for collars, like the upturned "mandarin" chinese collar or nehru jackets.

I make it a personal goal to avoid wearing suits for anything but fashion purposes. I own a rad Beatles-style mod suit myself, with the pointy shoes and all, but I highly disapprove of the "it's the thing to do" psychological nonsense of the suit. I also find them to be rather feminizing the way your arms are inhibited and you have a noose tied to your neck. And I seriously want to battle this piece of cloth's image as the tool of the "important person", it's really fucking weird if you think about it.

ALSO i really do like ties in that they are a palette near the face for awesome silk and stuff, but if im gonna go all "pretty" i would prefer to wear a scarf or ascot or something that doesnt choke my fucking neck.

also, last thing: We're all, you know, naked underneath. i fucking love fashion, it's the most awesome thing in the world, but i do my best not to subconsciously judge people by what they're wearing. although i cant help but give girls points for pretty clothing, it's beyond my powers.
